Re: Lift Strut attach to Spar
Hey Varmit Using the newer plans my spar attach fitting angle ended up directly in line with the lift struts. (My spars are 3/4" requiring the added 1/8" birch plywood under the fitting you can see in the pictures). Rick https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1Y1jVZb7qxbU2pPeVQ3aktiN2s/view?usp...

Interesting article, Rick. Thanks for posting. I'm definitely going to head down your way in my Piet this spring, maybe in conjunction with one of the monthly pancake breakfasts at Kiowa. We should plan to meet up for a two ship mass arrival. Cheers, Ken Sounds good Ken, Merry Christmas. Rick

Pietenpol Fleet Size
Recent Avweb article about the FAA homebuilt fleet size indicates that homebuilt completions are down a bunch from a decade ago (mostly because the FAA now requires reregistration every three years so aircraft no longer active are removed from the lists), EXCEPT for the Pietenpol: "While most o...

Re: fuselage length
The plane was not finished. It was picked up in pieces. After assembly, a weight and balance was done and that is when I found the CG was out. The wing was moved back 4 inches. That helped a little bit. The engine is a continental 65. It had a wooden Edward Sterba propeller that I changed for a 19 ...

A couple pictures of my 3/4" spars, notice that I epoxied 1/8" ply pieces to spar where the ribs attached so the ribs were built to plans with the 1" openings to slide on the front and rear spars. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/JRFaxUSQ1VsffxvwrnH6HY2bhTg_u69uaQj2TWRQ-QpjuEM2mgpF0I...

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am also building these and I have a question. I am using 4130 and plan to gas weld them, but it looks like you need to put the attachment bolts through the bracket before you weld them up. Any thoughts from anybody? Re: Seeking Aileron Pulley Bracket Advice
Made the two bends in the outer strap (verifying equal angles with an angle gauge), then drilled the 3/16" holes for the AN3 bolts, these holes were angled and reamed slightly to allow the bolts to be inserted at a slight angle from perpendicular (and then rotated to perpendicular for mounting ...

Built a cub style gear for my Piet using the GN-1 plans with the front/back attachment points the same as the Piet plans. Used die springs rather than bungie cords also. Was advised to move the front axle position forward 3-4" (especially with brakes) and glad I did, have had no problems with t...

I used 3/4 spruce for my spars, which I think is specified in the three piece wing plans (no routing needed). 160 hours and haven't fallen out of the sky yet.

Moved my axles 4 inches forward and has worked fine for 150 hours of flying (and my CG is in the forward area of the range). WW always refers people to pictures of Bernard's last Piet with the axles under the leading edges when people ask this question.

Have a long fuse with a Corvair and a 17 gal tank behind the firewall. Plenty of control authority with standard size tail components.

1% won't buy you much, never heard of that. I widened my fuselage 2 inches without too much extra effort. Have over 2000 hrs as CFI in 150s/172s/140s/Super Cubs/Decathalons/etc. and 107 hrs in my Piet. Saying that the Piet is a bad flying (or even bad ground handling, compared to other tail draggers) aircraft is nonsense (if properly built).
