I agree Richard. I checked the exhaust stack on my Tri Pacer with an O-320 yesterday and it is cut the came as J-3's. The bevel faces aft.

Re: Any Piet builders in Colorado
Fabrice, I agree with what Tom Kreiner said. As much as I enjoy Oshkosh, if your are building a Pietenpol Brodhead is the place to go. Almost all of the technical pictures I have taken were done at Brodhead. You may even see a couple of uncovered Pietenpols at Brodhead. Rick Schreiber NX478RS Valpar...

Re: Any Piet builders in Colorado
Joshua, There are a couple of things you should do to start. 1. log onto the West Coast Piet site at westcoastpiet.com. Chris Tracy runs this site. There is tons of information on Pietenpols as well as hundreds of photos. The photos are not just of finished Pietenpols, but also construction photos. ...

Re: New member, rookie question
Oscar, the access panel in the seat does make the condition inspection much easier, as does the seat back access and belly access. One thing I'd like to point out in the photo. If you look closely there is a dark spot in the port to starboard brace in the front of the seat. This is due to a mistake ...

Re: New member, rookie question
Ratman, If I am reading your question correctly, when you refer to the large plywood pieces (large gusset plates), you are referring to the plywood fuselage sides. If so there are no gussets on the fuselage outside where the fuselage sides attach. The fuselage sides serve as the gusset. If you are n...

I don't have a dog in this "fight" either but I feel compelled to put my two cents in anyways. First of all let me mention that I am a retired coatings chemist and product development chemist. I have been a technical director for multiple international companies over the past 45 years. Nor...

Re: Pietenpol Plans and Kits
Hi Rich and welcome to the Pietenpol group. First get your set of plans and the link to the Pietenpol family website is where to go. Secondly, if it were me I would start building ribs. You will need to build a rib jig first, then order your spruce, glue and plywood for the gussets. There is lots of...

Re: Have Wing Stand, Will Travel....
The only problem with a wing stand like this is that it is hard to store when done. I borrowed one like it when I was working on my Piet at the airport. It was great for moving the wings around but it does take up a lot of room. I have another set that is just the cradle portion made from 4 separate...

Re: Riblet's Airfoil Design layout
Using the Riblet Pietenpol airfoil will complicate the rib and wing construction. If you do an internet search on "Pietenpol Riblet" you will find a lot of discussion and comparison of the Riblet vs. the original Pietenpol airfoil. Here are a couple of links.... http://pietenpols.tripod.co...

Re: Questions for wing assembly
English Johhny, I started my Piet in 2003 when I was a fit 56 year old. I have a center section and did not plan on putting a cutout or flop in the center section. Around 7 years later at the age of 63, I had my fuselage done and on its gear legs, as well as the center section and the wing cabanes. ...

Re: Prop Plate Cover
I now have the quote in for the prop cover plate. The plates will be 0.020" aluminum 6.5" square. The plates are not cut out, but have the outer circle cut mark printed as well as the locator x-hairs for the SAE-1 prop bolt pattern. The cost is more than I had originally stated. The cost w...

Prop Plate Cover
I'm thinking about having a number of prop cover plates made with an acid etched design on the surface. This is just a thin cover plate meant to be used over a standard steel or aluminum prop plate. The diameter will be around 6" and made for a SAE-1 bolt pattern as used on a corvair prop hub. ...

Re: Control cable slack
Good morning George. The slack elevator cables are definately caused by the walking beam arm and the elevator control arms not forming a perfect parallelogram. If made to plans they form a trapezoid, which is why they go slack. I made the arm of the walking beam the same as the arms of the elevator ...

I have managed to get in 4 1/2 hours this year so far. The days that were above 30, usually were very windy so I have been limited. All of my flight time this year has been with my front pit cover installed. That has really made a difference! Not only is it warmer, but the amount of wind in the rear...
