Re: Herb's latest modifications on N709HR

Nah, doing fine, and building yet another already; Citabria. The plane [709HR] was taken by AIG, for what I assume to be cost recovery of the hull damage I carried on the plane. From what I could see of the remains, what I did not wreck, my rescuers did a fine job of making sure those parts were unus...

Re: Herb's latest modifications on N709HR

Morning Guys! Just found the W&B for 709HR, along with the documentation on the engine dyno; both are attached for your enjoyment. While it was like no other Pietenpol, and it was highly modified, it flew like a dream. Constructed like no other, it was my experiment, and I only wish I had more t...

Terry! Sorry I missed your question. At ZEMCO Speed Shop in Towercity, PA.. They deal with everything needed for racing, and also made my headers. Great guys to work with.

Re: Herb's latest modifications on N709HR

Yes, doing fine; hope to get the Halo off on the 14th of November. Will have to dig out the W&B info, but in order to keep the plane legal under the LSA rule it was limited to one adult for sure. The engine was non turbo EJ 2.2, and I will dig out the dyno documents to prove the 150HP it develop...

Re: Herb Rose

Good Morning Brodhead Pietenpol! I thank my fellow builders and concerned individuals for their support over the last six weeks. I suffered my worst nightmare at the end of 05 on 9 August as most of you know. It appears that as I've aged so has everything else, like my heart; it has what the doctors...

Good Morning! You are 100% correct, and I've been waiting on the extra large heat shrink I ordered locally to get here, so I can do just that. Unfortunately, living next to "No-Where" has it's on set of problems, and things just take a little time to get done. Thanks, HD Rose NX709HR, Bend...

Good Morning Pat!

Pat, I just finished reading your latest Brodhead Pietenpol Association, third quarter issue. This is really beautiful work you are doing, and I just wanted to say I like it a lot!

Congrats Bill! It's one thing to build a craft, it's an entirely different thing to fly said aircraft. Best wishes as you and craft become one.

Herb's latest modifications on N709HR

Good Morning Piets! Having just arrived back from a wonderful cycling trip to Yellowstone, and two days at Oshkosh Airventure, less the fact I wrecked my left knee, I wanted to share with those Pietenpol Builders, my most recent modifications to my aircraft. As posted previously, the axle/brakes fro...

Re: Spring landing gear

Morning Steve: Steve, after long and somewhat tedious adventure of design/change, and reviewing the great information I have from Earl Brown, I confess, the best possible solution of the spring gear would be the design of the J-3 with regard to where the spring-canister connects to the structure. I ...

Re: Spring landing gear

Morning Steve! The 2.25 square mounting plate on the axle assemblies bolts to the 3.25 square base I provided for weldment of the tubing forming my gear. Because the sealed bearing provided little to no protection for side-loading, I have removed and will install the new axles from Matco when they a...

Good Morning Pat Weeden! Pat, on my desk for the last few days was the most current issue, and by far the best Pietenpol newsletter; issue 2017-02. Would you please pass on to the very many people it took to produce this great read, my sincere thanks for a job well done! I found just about everythin...

Re: Spring landing gear

Good Morning Fellow Piets! Steve, I would like to update the post here on the steel landing gear I built for my plane, 709HR. Over the last few weeks I have flown and put this aircraft through its paces; the temperature on the oil and water have stabilized having changed out the 195'F thermostat for...

Re: Spring landing gear

Good Morning Steve: The information have here is a darn good start, but when I built mine there were a couple of things that needed to be changed structurally, for the best possible result. I have attached pictures for your use if it helps. The first thing is the mounting base the 2 inch metal band;...

Re: Control cable slack

Good Morning George! While I'm not sure how comfortable you are about deviating from the original plans, I had spent considerable time working on this problem in my own Pietenpol, NX709HR. Attached are some photos for your use, should you desire. As I have designed and built this the cables do not g...

Re: Herb's Pietenpol

Good Evening Folks: Today, I am most proud to announce that NX709HR took to the air for the first and second time. This is clearly not your father's Pietenpol, for in less than 125 feet of run-the craft is off the runway and sky bound. I had three of my friends here to witness and video tape the eve...

Good Evening George:

Could you please send me a picture of that anomaly? In the meantime, I'll look through my building logs for the travel you asked for. By memory, I'd surely be sending you down the wrong path.

Good Morning! From what I can tell from your pictures, I'm concerned that I don't see prop-drive lugs. I have attached several pictures of the hub I turned down, The importance of the drives is they drive the prop, not the bolts. Sensenich has a lot of detailed information about this and it has long...

Good Morning! I just finished mine and it was built for $ 15,227.31 Things you have to figure beyond that of the engine choice is how do you want to configure your plane. Herb's Pietenpol

Good Morning phbBB People! I will keep this short, but yesterday my Pietenpol, NX709HR was given the airworthiness certificate. I know there's some out there that will go ballistic when they see my plane, but like BH, I sought to address the many issues I found during my build, and modify them as I ...
