Re: bungee cord question for jenny style gear

I found that the zip ties will slip over time. I started to use safety wire and that worked. Never had to rewrap the cords since.

Re: fuel

I bought the fuel from Lee's Summit Airport. It was put in clear containers. The low lead fuel in the red gas cans did not change. I put some low lead in a clear jug and left it set in the sun and it changed. The cans were not in direct sunlight but were exposed to the morning sun. $60.00 dollar les...

fuel

I buy my fuel in 5-gallon clear fuel cans. I noticed that the two clear cans with 100 low lead had turned a straw color and in the bottom of both containers was a layer of light orange in color substance. I have never run across this before. The fuel was bought at a local airport that has fuel. I am...

Re: fuselage length

The plane was not finished. It was picked up in pieces. After assembly, a weight and balance was done and that is when I found the CG was out. The wing was moved back 4 inches. That helped a little bit. The engine is a continental 65. It had a wooden Edward Sterba propeller that I changed for a 19 l...

fuselage length

When I bought our Pietenpol project, I was told the fuselage was a long one. I was not aware that a shorter version of the fuselage was available. What is the difference in the length. I am flying at the rear of the Center of gravity and I am wondering if the shorter fuselage would help. Is there a ...

Re: ELT Antenna

Thanks for the information. We also was under the impression that the old ELT could be used and it came quite a surprise to us to get the rejection. We have already bought the new ELT and starting the installation with hopes we would not have to cut into fuselage.

ELT Antenna

FAA inspected our Pietenpol Air camper for it’s air worthy certificate yesterday.. Came down to the last question, where is the ELT. After a quick look a rejection was received. The ELT was out dated. The Frequency of 121.5 is no longer monitored. We bought a new 406 MHz ELT to install. The antenna ...

Re: Prop hub snap ring

I neglected to state that the engine is a Continental A 65 with a tapered shaft . I see in the exploded view that the snap ring (number 19) is the last to go on. That is the answer to my question. I received the prop hub nut, key, snap ring and the saftey bolt and nut in a zip lock bag along with th...

Prop hub snap ring

The Pietenpol air camper I bought was disassembled. I am in the process of putting it back together. One area not cover by the plans is putting the propeller hub back on the engine. My problem is with the snap ring and the prop hub locking nut. I found an article by Bob Gehring on how to remove and ...

Re: Number of plan sheets

Thank you for your reply. I have the plans clipped to a hard board to keep from unrolling and rolling them up when I use them. Under the clip I found the sheet numbers in the upper right corner. I was looking in the lower right. I feel dumb. I have 1 through 7 sheets. I am missing the plans for the ...

Number of plan sheets

I recently purchased a Pietenpol air camper project. With it I received seven plan sheets that was drawn by O. C. Re: Bracing for the flying strut

Thanks for your reply. Is the tabs that hold the jury struts to the wing bolted through the wing spar? I am going to have to cut an opening in the bottom of the wing covering to get at it. Looks like learning baseball stich and patching is in my future. Thanks again.

Bracing for the flying strut

I bought a Pietenpol Air camper project that is about 80% complete. While looking at photos of flying Pietenpols on this site I have noticed two vertical and a horizontal bracing about half way between the fuselage and the flying strut fittings. The two up right braces go from the struts two the bot...
