Re: Front Fuel tank

Both excellent. Was hoping to find something plug-N-play but I am fortunate to have a local lad who makes magic with tig AL. Looks like it’s cardboard and tape for me.

I'm thinking of doing the same.
Disappointed no responses.
Have you found out anything?

Re: Digital Instruments

I was looking at the Blaze singles. Looked like I could get about every thing I needed in two units.
However, I am thinking my tired old eyes will have difficulty seeing so don’t think I will be going that route.

Digital Instruments

Am ready to obtain and install instruments. OMG, I'm going to catch some grief over this but am looking at using, at least in some part, digital. Looking at the Blaze Singles. I know, I know, sacrilegious. Please, my Piet, my choice. Overall I am not going for the typical antique look. Has anyone go...

Re: Wanted - Landing Gear

Marine430, sorry for the delayed response. I really lucked out and found an EXCELLENT local tig welder. He did a fantastic job. I showed welds to all the airport bums and everyone owwed and awwed. Work of art. Anyway, thank you for the response/offer.

Thank You after posting this question I've been quizzing the "old timers" around the airport and they said the same as you.

which rib tape?

Purchased recommended supplies from Steward Systems. Two of the items included are Reinforcing Tape and Anti-Chafe Tape.
Which tape are you using (or maybe none) to cover the ribs before attaching the fabric?

For those of you who have been there and done that.

Re: stabilizer turnbuckle

Thanks for the replies/suggestions. I have also noted that the plans call for 14ga hardwire and the manual (same picture) calls for 12ga hardwire. I had assumed I was going to use cable but is anyone indeed using "hardwire" as per the plans? And if so, which gage and pros and/or cons of go...

Re: tail wire bracket attachment

Thank you. Yes, had already installed a shim and lengthen the bracket.
My knee jerk first thought was to use bolts but the plans do call for rivets so wanted to make sure I wasn’t going down the wrong path.

tail wire bracket attachment

The plans show the brackets on the tail where the wires are attached using rivets to mount. Holes are 3/16 and I figure the length needs to be at least 1 3/8 (or 1.5) in order to make it through the wood and both brackets. Looking at pictures it appears the more common way is to use bolts. Am I assu...

Elevator vs rudder control horn

Made both the elevator and rudder horns per the plan. Discovered that the tabs are made for 1” thick while the wood thickness they attach to is ⅝”. Again per plan’s. I’m assuming that a1/8” piece of wood seems to fill in the gap just fine but curious why the plans have different dimensions. Second q...

Re: control stick travel

So what I’m hearing is there is enough travel “between your knees “ that you don’t have to worry about the travel in the seat cutout.

control stick travel

Just finished the controls and test fit in the fuselage and I notice when the control (stick) is all the way to the left, the tube that connects the two control sticks hits the cutout in the back of the front seat. I can't really cut out the opening any because it will cut into the wood bracing. Eve...

attaching post hinge?

Bottom rudder hinge that attaches to the post. The countersink hole in the hinge is 100degree. Using/finding stainless mach bolts for all the other hinges has not ben a problem but since I cannot get to the backside of this one hinge, how are you'all attaching? Have not been able to source a stainle...

Re: stabilizer turnbuckle

Understand. The only reason I'm using 1/8" is because thats what I've got. Just trying to save some $$. However, if bigger/stronger turnbuckles cost more to offset the cost of the smaller cable, then....?

stabilizer turnbuckle

Sorry if this has already been addressed but I have been unable to find.
Using 1/8" cable for stabilizers but unable to figure out the correct turnbuckle to use.
Here is my guess: AN393 / MS20392-17
Too expensive to guess though.
Thoughts?
Recommendations?

Wanted - Landing Gear

Wanted: Split Axle Landing Gear I don't know how to weld / would like to learn but no classes anywhere near me. Don't have any equipment. I don't have a good location even if I did. The hanger is full of project=wood, sawdust, etc. Local welders won't touch since it's for an airplane (no, I won't fi...

Re: Sitka Spruce

I did end up biting the bullet and purchased the fuselage kit from Aircraft Spruce. I must admit, the quality of the wood I received is top notch. Packing / crating was also very well done. I was concerned that all that soft wood would get damaged in transit but this was so well protected I don't th...

plywood cut sheet ?

Ok, so a group of us at Chapter 132 are helping me with my Piet project. Fuselage kit is from Aircraft Spruce which included two sheets of 1/8" 4' x 8' mahogany plywood. We are at the point to cut the gussets (and other various pieces) and although it appears that the gussets are simply "c...
