Re: CNC Pietenpol Ribs & More

As Tom said-It's your project and you can do whatever you want with it, but maybe getting and studying the plans would be a good place to start before wanting to make changes to things. While you certainly could CNC the ribs- for the amount of time you are going to spend digitizing, laying out and g...

Re: Pietenpol vertical wing strut support.

Hi Ed The jury struts serve a definite purpose and need to be on the plane. Excessive compression loads or harmonic oscillation can cause the lift struts to buckle. The lift strut material called for in the plans had internal stiffeners, so the early planes did not need the jury struts- today's tubi...

Herb Rose

I spoke with Herb earlier this week. He wanted me to let you know the doctors confirmed his heart condition. Apparently, his aortic valve is leaking so badly they are surprised he is up walking around! He goes into the hospital the 15th for more tests and will then hear when he will have surgery. I'...

Herb Rose

I spoke with Herb this morning and he wanted me to pass on that he is on the mend.
While he is still pretty banged up, he is out of the hospital, has been released from physical therapy and is now back home.

Re: Questions for wing assembly

John; Thought I would add that since you are varnishing everything on the completed wing- your choice of varnish depends on which covering system you will be using. If you are using the Polyfiber system you will need to use a 2 part epoxy varnish because the Poly-Tak will dissolve regular varnish. I...

Re: Questions for wing assembly

Johnny;

You can save a little headache on the leading edge by marking your rib locations on the inside of the wrap, taping those areas off and
varnishing the rest of the wrap before you attach it.

But, as Rick said- wait until your wings are assembled then varnish EVERYTHING.

Re: Hand Prop to Electric Start Conversion

the blower, top cover and shroud are not used in the conversion. The new top cover is a flat sheet which leaves plenty of room to mount the starter
