A complete Pietenpol Air Camper for $2,900.00 ? Is this correct? Many propellers cost more than that ! Sounds too good to be true. Is this still available?

Thank you Oscar. I got so curious that I couldn't wait for a reply here and called Mike who told me about the engine. As it happens I have a Continental A-65 so it sounds like it will work out fine if I can manage to trailer Mike's Pietenpol down to Florida. U-Haul's largest flat bed trailer is only 12 feet long so it may be a problem. Also I may run into problems removing the wings and loading them on the trailer. I am trying to find an A and P mechanic to accompany me from Florida to Virginia and return to smooth out the operation.

Alan; put the wings on the bottom and build a simple framework over them so you can roll the fuselage up onto the trailer with the wings underneath.

Just found your response Oscar; I am 88 years old and never did a blog before. Thanks for your advice and photo, very helpful. Do you have an older (much older) sister?

Alan; I'm not that far behind you in the rear-view mirror... I'll be 68 this July. I have an older sister, but she's only a year older than I am. Her name is Patti and she's definitely not a pilot!

Besides moving my Air Camper on the flatbed trailer, I've also moved it in a Penske/Ryder van. I was moving it from Texas to Oregon in the winter so the enclosed moving van made a lot more sense than an open trailer. That move went as smooth as silk. Lashed one wing standing up on the leading edges on some foam blocks, secured them against each side of the inside of the van, then secured the fuselage inside the van by screwing down some wide straps onto the wooden floor of the van, running the straps over the tires of the airplane so it couldn't roll, and anchored the tailwheel. Never moved an inch in 2400 miles.

Oscar, You are a wealth of information; one of the few who, "See all, know all and tell all", thank you. I will now confess that, although I have many flying credentials, I cannot drive a nail straight or start a screw in soft wood. Writing in this blog gives the impression that I (me, me, me) am building a Pietenpol but the truth is that I am just purchasing the material and a competent friend is gluing things together. He gets half ownership for building it and I get half for paying the bills. Unfortunately, as I am sure you have learned, once retired you are busier than when you were when you were working; and my competent friend is not available to get the Pietenpol up north and prepare it for the trip in the trailer or truck back to Florida. Perhaps Mike will help me prep it for the trip. Thanks again for your advice. Alan

Note to Mike: If you are listening Mike, I need you to remove the wings and help me secure them and the fuselage on a trailer or truck or your baby will never leave your garage with me. Let me know if you are up for that if I provide a full price offer and write a check that doesn't bounce for the full amount. Sadly, my home does not have a garage. I am now seeking an hanger (with some difficulty) so the purchase and trip are not imminent. I will call before coming and reserve the right to see before paying; thus please do not disassemble on my behalf until I have seen your Pietenpol and am poised to write a check. Thanks !!!

Alan
