I don't care what folks say,it isn't the easiest tail dragger around... As such, those early days are still fresh in my memory! I don't think gusty conditionscause the most forces on that rudder bar, but rather a newbie. My instructorasked if I was nervous... No. I think you are, relax your legs. I'mnot tensed was my reply. Then the rudder is stuck because I can't move it!I then realized I was pushing with both legs pretty damn hard! Don't think it'sthe first time he'd saw that. Air forces aren't anything compared to that,you likely will be putting more force on that bar than you may realize. Guess I could have been a little more clear.My reference to the gusty crosswinds wasn't intended to imply that the aerodynamicloads caused by the crosswinds would result in heavy rudder bar forces, butrather, that the rapidly changing conditions would require the pilot's feetto be dancing on the rudder bar, and pretty much any pilot likely would end upapplying foot pressure to both sides simultaneously.Likewise, any time the pilot has used up all the rudder travel, but still doesn'tseem to be enough, human nature will be to push harder (even though there isn'tanywhere more to go.) Just like the way most people will apply even morepressure to a car's brake pedal, even when the tires are skidding, yet the carisn't stopping fast enough - the extra pressure on the pedal doesn't do anygood at all (since the wheels are locked), but it's still hard to resist doingit.The short answer is that the rudder bar will end up being stressed quite a bitmore than is actually necessary to operate the plane.
