Pietenpol-List: Propeller suggestions for O-200?

Post by matronics »

--> Pietenpol-List message posted by: "Andy Garrett" I was just afforded a rare opportunity to purchase a firewall forward Continental O-200 sans mount and prop. This is the very engine I learned behind years ago and it was just overhauled 18 months ago. The price is right, and I'm buying it. Another student damaged the airplane beyond practical repair, so... the owner is parting it out. I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for cost effective wooden propeller options that have proven to be successful on the draggy Piet. Kansas is very hot in the summer, so while I don't want to give away too much speed, performance definitely has to lean toward climb. While I'm at it, any suggestions on sourcing a mount? Thanks. -------- Andy Garrett 'General Purpose Creative Dude' Haysville, Kansas Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... 866#443866 Email Forum - - MATRONICS WEB FORUMS - List Contribution Web Site - -Matt Dralle, List Admin.________________________________________________________________________________

Good question. I did my steel fuselage exactly the side-view dimensions but twoinces wider. If I did it again I would do same with the one exception of addingthree inces to the passenger bay.--------Jake Schultz - curator,Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home)Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Propeller suggestions for O-200?

So I go to the bar behind my house for a quick night cap this evening... My buddy,a tech guru, has this cardboard contraption with two lenses and a I phone. It allows you to watch special videos in a virtual setting, really cool. Sitin the cockpit of an f5 in the midst of a six plane demonstration tram andlook anywhere you want as you sit in a bar looking into a cardboard box comingacross as a fool as you gaze in awe! There's a wingtip mounted go pro on one of those two planes, you can look at yourself, your wingman, or forward as they go through the hangar. Pretty cool.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Propeller suggestions for O-200?

Jay made me a prop a year ago. At that time he said he wasn't making props anymore "just for guys he knows and those building Pietenpols". At that time he had still a few blanks. I'd try him before writing off the option. They're beautiful props. (Haven't finished my airplane yet so I can't comment about performance). Scott Knowlton. You've got a lot of cool stuff going on with that plane! The scallops on the trailing edges are cool, especially with the modified elevatorshape. The classic propeller adds to that old school style. Then you havethe 'Jolly Rogers' paint scheme and the modern and unique cowl work pulling thelook into a more recent era. Great contrasts throughout!Don't think I missed that Chi-Rho on the underside of the center-section either.Nice touch.Couple of questions:What are the tins on you stacks meant to do? Better/more even heat dissipation? Is that an O-200? If so, where did you get the mount? Same one from the plans? What is the locking wheel on the right side of the cockpit wall? Parking brake? Is yours a Grega plan? I only ask because it looks like plywood all the way backon the fuselage.Great airplane! Thanks for taking the time to share it!--------Andy Garrett'General Purpose Creative Dude'Haysville, KansasRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Foo Fighter 001 Pictures

First of all, Beautiful airplane. So many extra touches to name. I reallylike the paint and the all the sheet metal work.... I can see many many hoursof work far above what a simple Pietenpol would take. But oh my when you said you built it to this spot then disassembled it andput it in storage to be re-assembled later and flown i am amazed. I would beflying the stuffings out of it.... I am getting close to a fly date in mine,I still have one wing to assemble and cover , hopefully sometime before firstfrost, Good luck Great looking bird.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: from: motorbikemikexb9

Very clever use of an old phenolic pulley! We have a surplus store here in Wichita called The Yard. Most of what they sellis overrun material or cast-offs from the local aircraft industry. They sellthose things in big bins. I might have to grab a few now that you've given mesome ideas. :)Keep at it! Paul, I weighed the aircraft last summer to locate the wings. At the time, I hadeverything I could think of in place to get an accurate weight. It came in at577#. It now has the permanent diagonals to locate the wings and the aluminumcover over the fuel tank. An E.L.T will also be added.Once out at a hangar and final assembly is complete, I will do another W&B, butit should only change a few pounds. Hey Andy,I still have to get my prop off the wall to read the sizes, but to NOT tryto hang a 76" prop on an 0-200, it won't turn up. It was designed for a 69"prop for a 150 and doesn't have the torque down low to spin a big prop likethat. I can't remember exactly but you'll likely be spinning a 72" propDouwe________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Latex Painting Update at Airventure
