BPA Project Auction for Brodhead
EAA
Chapter 431 Meeting Hall Fund
During Sun ‘N Fun in Florida,
the guys in the annual woodworking shop built a Pietenpol Air Camper fuselage to be sold at the July Brodhead Reunion with
the proceeds going to the Chapter 431 Building Fund. The mini-tornado that wrecked three new Pietenpols and piled them together
slowed the builders down a bit, but the fuselage is basically complete.
They realized that most of the BPA members
scattered about the country and the world would not be attending the Reunion so would not
be able to bid on the fuselage in person. It was decided that sealed bids in
mail-in sealed envelopes seemed to be the best idea. At the same time, anyone
attending the Reunion could also submit their sealed bid in person before award time on Saturday,
July 23rd. Upon opening of the sealed bids, the high bidder will win
the fuselage – where it is and as it sits – and will take it home. Mail
your bid complete with contact information to:

The fuselage is extended to 188 inches
overall. The length is added to the nose for a heavier pilot. The seats have not been installed so the builder can adjust these for height. There are bellcrank fittings and cockpit torque tube fittings, but not installed. Tail feathers are included, but not finished (see photo). Solid
teak 1/8” instrument panels are not installed. Turtledeck materials included
but not installed. Pair of fixed wooden landing gear legs included but not installed. Also 1/2” sheet of birch plywood.
The fuselage will give anyone a great
start, with enough materials to personalize it. It was built by the woodworking
guys who know what they are doing with Dick Navratil as the crew chief.
In addition to the fuselage, which will
be sold by sealed bid, there are some other items offered by generous donors. They
will be sold on site at the Reunion, so bring your checkbooks. They include at last count:
●
Some 90 feet of Stits Poly-fiber cloth
●
Box of metal parts for Air Camper, including landing gear and wing fittings.
●
If fuselage winner is going to use a Corvair engine, a Corvair engine mount.
●
Additional items will be posted on the BPA website www.pietenpols.org and
the EAA Chapter 431 website www.eaa431.org.
