Re: EAA 461 Pietenpol project - questions

Hi Earl Thank you for the response! I had read the weight and balance manual and found the 1/2” reference. That’s what prompted the questions. We do plan to move the wing back now that we have a better understanding of the specifics. The fuselage was built for a Corvair. Our understanding was for a ...

Re: EAA 461 Pietenpol project - questions

We worked on the Pietenpol again last night and continue to scratch our heads about the location of the gear and axle. If I interpret the weight and balance guide properly, we have a challenge on our hands with the location of the gear. Our question is on a long fuselage Pietenpol (built for a Corva...

Re: EAA 461 Pietenpol project - questions

Assuming I measured this accurately, it appears to be 27” on center We believe the fuselage is at or close to 172” long. This is from a measurement and the builders hand drawn notes. Since we are planning an A-65 engine instead of the Corvair, our big questions are the location of the axles (again, ...

Re: EAA 461 Pietenpol project - questions

Hi I had homework to do before replying. The fuselage is a long version from what we can tell. Attached are the photos I have to at least partially answer what the current configuration is. As I mentioned in my post, the weight and balance manual emphasized the position of the gear being just aft of...

EAA 461 Pietenpol project - questions

Hi everyone I’m helping my EAA chapter tackle a “mostly done” Pietenpol project. Joined BPA and bought the Weight and Balance manual. This evening was our first work night in the chapter hangar. I have questions. The project was built for a Corvair, and we are *hoping* to use a Donated C-65-8. We do...

Re: New member introduction

Thanks Oscar We do not see a W&B anywhere...yet. I am literally digging through the paperwork. The first thing we plan to do is establish where we are at and what to do first, which is likely get it on the wheels. Thanks for the advice on the tanks - yes, there is one in the center section of the wi...

Re: New member introduction

Hi Oscar We did. In fact I have been looking them over. The airplane is fairly complete. Both the fuselage and three piece wing are covered and painted. It has fiberglass fuel tanks. The cockpit is fairly complete. I’ve been making a list of what we have, what we need, and where to begin. But my exp...

Re: New member introduction

Thanks Dan!

It scratches one itch. But obviously a very different one than the Pietenpol.

We started an assessment of the aircraft today and I already have questions. Doing some homework before I ask...

New member introduction

Hi everyone, I’m a new member of the forum and joining the BPA also. EAA 461 at Clow International Airport (1C5) was given a partially completed Pietenpol and I volunteered to lead an effort to complete it and get it flying. I built a conventional gear Sonex and am currently flying it at Clow, but l...
