Help with info about a certain Piet

Hi all, So I saw a while back a certain Pietenpol. I don't remember the builder's name. It was at a fly-in and also featured in some type of online magazine or similar. If memory serves me correct, it had the following; It was black in color but I'm not sure it was 100% black. Lycoming engine that d...

How to tell the difference between zinc and tin coated Nicopress sleeves?

Hey all, So I was over at Homebuilt Help and watched a video on when to use which sleeve. The gentleman stated that bare copper and zinc plated copper were to be used on galvanized and tin plated copper on stainless. I have galvanized. But he also stated that there is some erroneous data out there. ...

Re: Glide Ratio

I used Lowry's Bootstrap Approach to Aircraft Performance when doing my Phase One testing of NX313KB. I highly recommend this resource. I found the best glide (Vbg) to be 57 mph. The glide ratio at that speed is 7.8 to 1. You can find documentation of these flight tests under the "Files" ...

Re: Tiger Moth style tanks??

Hey, I "bumped out" my wing tank to make a "moth-style" tank when I built my plane in 2011. Kevin Purtee also did the same thing. I am very pleased with it because it gives me the range I like for that once-a-year Brodhead trip, but the option to only keep 12 gallons or so in it...

Re: Building process, order of operation?

My suggestion was that you try to do anything you can do that's inside the cockpits and empennage as early as you can, because it gets more and more difficult to work inside there as the fuselage sides and covering go on, but you've got a steel tube fuselage that makes it much easier to work on thi...

Re: Building process, order of operation?

IMG_9219.JPG IMG_9219.JPG Photographs would be very helpful. I have been working on my Piet for 10 years and I am still working on the order of operations though..... It was Terry Hand's plane, super nice guy. I picked it up a couple weeks ago. I'm still working on my shop in the basement and the l...

Building process, order of operation?

I recently purchased a partially completed Piet. The fuselage is complete, sitting on the gear, rudder and elevators complete, wings complete, struts complete. So there is a lot done and a lot to do. I’m looking for some guidance on where to pick up and get things going. My gut tells me: 1) Finish t...

Considering a father/son project and thinking about the Piet.

So my son and I are looking for a plane to build together. We've looked at several designs, the Zenith planes, Double Eagle, the Fisher designs, etc. We've been considering the Piet as well. I have a few questions. First, what is considered a comprehensive set of plans? I've looked around a bit and ...
