Solid braced ribs?
A friend of mine was sharing some pictures of some Piet ribs (4 of them) that one whole side is a solid plywood gusset (and the bottoms on the spar passthrough looks to be for a routed spar shape). Are these reinforced ribs for the 'butt ribs' in a 3-piece wing? Nowhere in the plans do I see a call ...

Longeron Splices
If you had to do a repair, where would a longeron splice be a big "no-no"? Additionally: I have long enough wood to do one-piece longerons, but where is the proper place to splice a longeron if you couldn't find 14' lengths of wood?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Fly w/Uncovered Fuselage?
I was meaning the wooden fuselage version of the Piet...I plan on covering mine, I was just wondering if the airplane can be flown without the rear fuselage fabric...from a structural, not an aerodynamic standpoint.

Fly w/Uncovered Fuselage?
Being into all things antique when it comes to airplanes, I've always been endlessly fascinated by the Bleriot XI. That plane has the cable-braced frame and no fuselage fabric covering. Can a Piet be flown without the fuselage covered or does the fabric provide critical structural integrity? I ask b...

Buying Someone Else's Project...
There is a gentleman selling (locally) a complete welded steel fuselage (uncovered) for a GN-1,a completed (covered, etc...) Pietenpol wing, and complete GN-1 plans. (As irony would have it...all my wing ribs are completed.) He is not the original wing builder or fuselage builder. I am not sure I wa...

Re: Light Engine CG question
Thanks for the replies. I guess my new question is: Since I have not built the fuselage yet, and I already know I need to position the wings further aft, can I place my cabane attachment points further aft on the fuselage...or do I need to place them in accordance to the plans and adjust the length ...

Light Engine CG question
Hello! When installing an engine considerably lighter than the 'stock' Model A engine (say, a small Rotax), what is the solution to the obvious weight/CG issue? Is it just to add weight at the firewall and extend the motor mounts? I ask for 2 reasons...the obvious is the basic weight/CG issue, but t...
