Re: airspeed static port

I could also just run a short static line into the small baggage compartment which would probably experience less pressure fluctuations than inside the cockpit

airspeed static port

Hey everyone,

question: did any of you not run a static line to your ASI and just leave the static port open? if so, does it read ok? I'm thinking of doing that with my open cockpit SE5a reproduction but wondered how it works

thanks

Re: Pitot tube

Yes, a Johnson-type ASI or a hall-type is perfectly acceptable for experimental category. I've flown with a johnson on Re-PIET since 2012.

Re: close to Oshkosh

I've been there as well and she's right about the water temps!! gorgeous though, and if you don't like the WX, just wait thirty minutes 'cause it'll change.

Re: Tiger Moth style tanks??

Hey, I "bumped out" my wing tank to make a "moth-style" tank when I built my plane in 2011. Kevin Purtee also did the same thing. I am very pleased with it because it gives me the range I like for that once-a-year Brodhead trip, but the option to only keep 12 gallons or so in it....
