Re: Vertical Stabilizer flutter

Hi Andy, Regarding your vertical stabilizer flutter [vibration], perhaps I may make a couple of observations after watching your video. The vibration appears to occur at a high rpm and during climb out. When you reduced power, the vibration seems to stop as seen during your descent and approach. The...

Re: Trailering a Piet

There are basically two ways to transport an aircraft. I have transported dozens, even sent one to Europe in a Maersk container. An enclosed vehicle is best. [truck or trailer] Using an enclosed vehicle, one sets the wings on either side, resting the leading edges on the floor and strapping them to ...

Re: suggestions for landing gear / tailwheel assc.

I would suggest you look at the website of Tracy Obrien aircraft parts for the brakes. He has several different styles of brake that can be fitted onto spoked wheels. I feel the best tailwheel is sold by Aircraft Spruce and is listed as " homebuilder tailwheel". It was listed as AVP tailwh...

My GN-1 design range was 18.1 inches - 20.7 inches aft of datum. The datum was the wing leading edge. Aerodynamic center of lift was 14 inches aft of datum. Cheers, Don

You don't HAVE to finish the Piet. It's not the end that justifies the journey. It gives us old guys something to think about and keeps us busy. Don

Re: AN42B eye bolts

I have used eyebolts on two aircraft for elevator and rudder hinges. I like them, as they are very strong compared to aluminium. If you use a forstner drill bit, you can recess the base of the eyebolt into the wood and keep the gap between elevator / stabilizer and rudder / vert stab to a minimum. J...

Ford GAV

This question is for those members who are running a Ford engine in their Piet. What have you done with the GAV? I have mine operating, with a motor-tool cable reversed around the front of the engine and a rotatable knob on the instrument panel. It works fine but I'm having a hard time with a hot st...

Re: Wooden repair

I have been working with various epoxies and fabrics for quite a while. I find epoxy is a good base for fabric covering if the finish is scuffed a bit with medium sandpaper. I have not found any of the various process glues that affect the epoxy.

I hope anyone with a Ford Model A or B can help me with this question. Does anyone have a connection to the GAV that will provide mixture control? Re: fabric cement for pietenpol

I can suggest an amount if you use Stewart Systems. About 1 gallon of Ekobond and 2 gallons of Ekofill is a fairly good estimate. More Ekobond will be required if you decide to seal the fabric. That step is not required in their STC qualifications. Call Stewart System personnel directly and they can...

crank shaft -magneto connection

I am hoping that some of you builders have found an up dated method of connecting the crankshaft to the magneto. All I have are the early drawings on the original plans. There must be a better way with a better universal joint and magneto attachment. Can anyone give me an insight to how this is done...

I am a new member to the BPA, but have built 2 Piets and other aircraft. I am familiar with Continental and Lycoming, but I have not done a Ford installation. Could someone please send me off in the right direction to obtain information on installing a Ford B for my Sky Scout? Thanks, Don Brewer
