Re: N34KP's rebuild

Where is the plywood on a 767? I miss the wood block on the engineer's panel of the 727. I never did know why it was there.

Re: Plywood delamination?

Caveat emptor, but I was happy with the spruce beam that I ordered.

I grabbed one from my stack. It's not an end rib. It weighed in at 229 g.

Center section tank straps

How are your center section gas tank straps attached to the airframe? Did you drill holes in the spar?

Re: Steaming leading edge plywood?

Plywood was soaked in hot water for about 15 minutes. Pipe was heated with a heat gun. Used water and a sponge to keep plywood from drying and getting singed. Left the clamps on until dry, overnight, I think.

Phenol Novolac Epoxy

Does anyone have any experience with a riveted fuel tank sealed with phenol novolac epoxy, brand name Caswell?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks.

Phosphoric acid

AC 43 says:
Use of acid-based strippers, chemical removers, or chemical conversion coatings are not permitted on steel parts without engineering
authorization.

And yet I'm still tempted to give my steel parts a phosphoric acid bath before priming. Any thoughts or experience?

How smooth is smooth

A friend cut a piece of steel into strips for my center section fittings. Unfortunately, he left me with rust and tool marks to contend with. I've sanded with 80 and 120 grit sandpaper. How fine do I need to go?
