Brodhead Pietenpol Association

I just bought a Pietenpol project I would say 75 percent complete. The original builder has built and covered the ailerons and elevators already and was planning on using piano hinge to attach to horizontal and wing. Any thoughts on this? Looks like he was going to use countersunk wood ...
