Re: cockpit covers
I tested this cover out today and it seems to work pretty good. It’s just screwed in place for now just to see how it does. Definitely keeps the draft out and I didn’t notice it flopping around at all. I will change to easier fasters at some point. The fabric is “Top Gun” from Joann. 8FE2EC5E-3DB5-4...

Re: Will this spring work for A frame tailwheel
Whenever it was time for me to figure out what spring to use there I got lucky and found a spring manufacturer 15 minutes from my house. The W.B Jones Spring Co. in Wilder KY. I stopped in one day after work with my drawings. I pointed out the note about the 6-7/8" length and being fully compre...

Re: Plans tailwheel vs leaf/spring wheel
I can't speak to performance as I'm not yet flying but I think it's worth noting that BHP's last original used the coil spring set up.
The earlier plans from the '32 FGM show using a leaf spring from a Model T.
Seems to me Bernard switched to the coil spring design and stuck with it.

702F1E57-3E67-430E-91AD-F76226BE47A0.jpeg I’m in the process of fabricating my exhaust and am curious to hear from folks with real world experience. Re: Heel Brakes
Oscar, the cable does not currently go around a pulley. It just bends 90 degrees around a wood curve. I figured that would be a simpler installation (always on the quest to reduce parts count). However, I made the dimensions match that of a pulley so that if it proves to be a problem then it would b...

I’m still in the building stage so who knows how well my setup will actually work but for what it’s worth here’s a couple shots of how I did mine. Re: Vertical Stab attachment bolt holes
Looking at the pictures of the last original on West Coast Piet it looks like Bernard didn't offset the fiin at all. Maybe someone who has seen it in person can verify that. The camera angle makes it hard to say for sure. It also looks like he used a combination of screws and bolts in that area. Not...

I've read about folks extending their mounts forward a lot. It''s mentioned in William Wynns Weight and Balance book. I made my horns symmetrical (not yet flying). I figured the error was just because the plan's templates were hand drawn. I re-drew the horns on manila folders and cut them out for patterns. Worked pretty good.
As far as the brace fittings I used .090 for the fin and .100 for the h-stab.

I mistakenly made my upper motor mount fittings to the dimensions on drawing 6 wich doesn’t appear to provide enough clearance for the Continental mount.
I believe they should work for anyone planing on using a Model A.
