Re: Intro questions
Hi Jamie I have heard of projects being completed in as little as a year, but I think 5 is about average build time. Lots of other things do get in the way during the project! There is no really complicated woodworking in the plane, (some of the welding is more complicated than the wood work) it was...

Re: Still new and nuts on nuts
If the parts you are talking about are not rotating, then nylock or metal lock nits will work.
It would also be a good idea to add inspection panels or plates where you can so you can get to the parts and inspect them.

John, that plywood gives the fasteners a stronger surface to tighten down on.
The spruce is too soft by itself.

Re: attaching post hinge?
I am using the 100 degree cad plated screws ( I think they still have an NAS number)
I put an access panel in the tail of the fuselage, so I can get to the nuts on the backside of the tailpost,
as well as the fasteners for the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.

I don't think I even noticed that measurement difference!
I put my finished horizontal stab on the fuselage and stopped the turtledeck at the front of the horizontal.

Re: control sticks connection (rod)
I put the rod on the other side of the control sticks and got some more room.
My hand hits my legs before the rod hits the opening.
If you put control stops in the cockpit, they will most likely stop the stick before the rod hits as well.

Re: shock struts
if your landing gear is built to plans, then, it could work. this plane had bungees and got changed over to springs. These are external springs- the spring in a can version is a bit larger so clearance might become an issue. These are a couple of images on how to make the external spring type gear. ...

Re: Control Horns
Jeffery The control horns should be symmetrical. The plans are not always drawn accurately as far as using drawings for templates. I scanned the plans and then re-drew the horns using the overall dimensions, but making sure they were symmetrical from side to side. The plans do say that the Upper Wir...

Re: Pilot Headrest/Helmet box
Hi John I mounted the headrest on top of the backrest because I thought it would be more comfortable having the two pieces match up. The door in my headrest is about 10" wide by 6-3/4" high, but I didn't put an actual box behind the headrest, have a shelf there. You may want to get your ha...
