Sky Scout Historical Photos.

Post by Clay Hammond »

I thought an album of vintage photos would be good for inspiration.

Clay,
I just discovered your pictures in the photo section! Sorry I did not see them sooner. Thanks so much for sharing!
I building a SckScout in Colusa, CA. It is 99% complete and I plan to have it inspected this Spring. Scott Liefeld will test fly it and then some friends will fly off the required time. I can no longer fly due the loss of my vision....not good enough for flying. Not sure what to do with it after that! Hopefully I can save it for my grandson who has his license and will finish engineering school next year.
I will try to post a photo.

Ditto... I hadn't seen some of those Sky Scout pictures either! I'm assuming the one with the clamshell-style cowling is a Ford Escort engine, but is it? Distinctive positioning of the distributor.

I believe it was a Chevy Vega engine. Forrest Lovely built it.

That Vega engine made its peak torque right around the 2400 RPM range and wouldn't have been any heavier than a Ford A engine. That would have made it a great candidate for the Sky Scout or Air Camper. I wonder how it performed for Forrest?
