Tail Feathers

It's been seventeen months to the day since I first dipped my toe into the Pietenpol pond by ordering the fin and rudder kits from Aircraft Spruce. I can finally now say that I've got my tail behind me.
Lines layed and jigs made. Spruce routed, cut, shaped, sanded. Gussets glued. Two coats of varnish over all. Hinges set. Horns cut, formed and welded. Fittings primed. Rivets peened and bolts tight.
What a beautiful design. You can't beat the rugged elegance of 'bout right engineering.
Thanks Bernard.

I have remade the fittings a couple of times and I would recommend that you extend the ends of them a bit. Getting the clevis pin into the shackle takes some space. Especially after the covering is installed.
