Hey Jack P - I've been wanting to get myself a CS(squared) t-shirt for a whilenow. If you see any for sale at Brodhead, could you get me one (large)? Of course,if you go through all that trouble, I'll be happy to buy one for you, too...If you don't already have one, that is. I'll pick it up at the August 1114meeting.Ken PRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Its official! Today I was lucky enough to have my first ride in a Pietenpol Air Camper. A fellowPiet owner about 4 hours from me invited me down for a flight and to discusswhat things he would change if building one from scratch. This Piet is powered with a Subaru EA81 with a belt driven reduction unit. Thecontrols were really quite sensitive but nice to fly. He has tape along the aileronhinge line.He is very happy with the landing gear which is apparently straight off a PiperColt. I eyeballed it and the axle line appears to be straight under the leadingedge of the wing. He stated the seat on this one was built straight up anddown and becomes very uncomfortable on a longer jaunt. He has entry doors to bothpilot and passenger sections and I admit it was reasonably easy to get inand out and would have been a challenge with out them. Anyone have a sketch orsuggestions on how to add doors?Something he mentioned was the engine had no offset which is why he thinks to flyin balance, he needed to make a large deflection of the rudder trim tab. Itsvery noticeable when standing behind it. What do folk do about building in someside and down thrust? Mine being a Corvair swinging the prop in the otherdirection, will I need left offset rather than the usual right? We went for an hours flight and did the beaches at 500 feet and climbed higherand did steep turns and he demonstrated the stall. It was very benign with a slightshudder and the right wing drops. It doesnt drop abruptly but definitelydrops. The experience was fantastic albiet a little cold on my face but what a thrill! It gives me greater inspiration to get mine finished now. Overall for a homebuilt I was very impressed. It was great to be able to discuss what modificationshe thought would make a more user friendly plane...Scotty--------ScottyTamworth, AustraliaBuilding a Corvair Powered Pietenpol Air Camperwww.scottyspietenpol.comRudder, Vert stab, Elevators and Ribs built...Building Horizontal stab...Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/flyi ... __________
