It's dimple tape.- Think golf ball dimples. The original dimple tape web site is gone, but you can buy the stuff at any vinyl sign shop.- Cut it into 1" wide strips and apply it to the thickest part of the airfoil (prop, wing, aerodynamic strut, etc.). Works like vortex generators.- Bill Rewey put it on his prop and gets 10% increase in performance and quieter operations, too.- Glad to hear that Shad is getting similar improvement.Shad, did you superglue it on to the prop?DanOn 07/19/2011 04:37 PM, mark lee wrote:> That's really weird. You say it's just tape?>> On Tue, Jul 19, 2011 at 2:09 PM, shad bell > wrote:>>- ---Well folks, just test flew the prop with the vortex tape on it, it>- ---actually works.- I can pull the power back even further to maintain>- ---78mph, and 2900rpm (indicated).- It is about 100 150 rpm faster on>- ---climbout.- Woth the effort I guess, just not sure how long it will>- ---stick to the prop before it starts coming loose.>- ---Weather permiting I'm headed out at 7am tommorow.>- ---Shad>>- ---*>>- ---" target="_blank">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Pietenpol-List>- ---tp://forums.matronics.com>- ---_blank">http://www.matronics.com/contribution>>- ---*>>> *>>> *-- Dan YocumFermilab- 630.840.6509yocum@fnal.gov, http://fermigrid.fnal.gov"I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things."le, List Admin.________________________________________________________________________________Date: Tue, 19 Jul 2011 21:46:04 -0500

I just talked to Kevin and he is at the Sand Burr enjoying lunch. No issues at all on the trip up.Jack Phillips and Matt Paxton were delayed out. Matt had a bungee give out on the gear that cost them a few hours. It happened during a tight turn. No damage other than the prop tips. It looks as the bungees may have been loose and went a bit over center, then were unable to come back. They are replacing the prop with the St Croix that Jack has at his hangar and tightening the bungees. With any luck may get across the mountains of WV today. -john-http://www.cafepress.com/half_fastJohn HofmannVice-President, Information TechnologyThe Rees Group, Inc.2424 American LaneMadison, WI 53704Phone: 608.443.2468 ext 150Fax: 608.443.2474Email: jhofmann(at)reesgroupinc.comOn Jul 19, 2011, at 1:00 PM, K5YAC wrote:> > It has begun.> > --------> Mark Chouinard> Wings, Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on Fuselage> > > > > > > Read this topic online here:> > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... 063#347063> > > > > > > > > > ________________________________________________________________________________

We didn't make it out today. Weather was IFR until about 2:30 or 3:00, andwe had to drive an hour and a half each way back to my hangar at SmithMountin Lake to get my spare prop for Matt's plane. By the time we got thenew prop installed and the bungees fixed, it was 6:00 PM and we were tootired to think about flying. We'll launch as early as we can in the morningand see how far we can get. Forecast looks pretty good. With luck, wemight make it all the way, landing Brodhead by about 7:00 PMJack Phillips & Matt Paxton

Drove up here to PG yesterday and over nighted. Getting all my last minute business stuff done this a.m. Sometime later this morning I'll pack up the Aeronca and fly my camping stuff (including the super-sized fish scale for Gary) over to C-37 and dump off. Then back to PG to get NX929DH ready. Not sure when that will be. Hopefully these winds will not be as bad as everybody is saying. Right now they are light. So as of right now the plan is to arrive at Brodhead today sometime. This is the last time I will get a chance to check this list today, so if any of you boys are getting close to C-77 give me a call (815) 298-5680. Maybe we can hook-up.Everybody fly safe, ya hear?Dan HelsperPoplar Grove, IL.________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Piets to Brodhead

Wow!... Following this post kinda makes me want to rent that old 60's movie..something..."magnificentFlying something..something..flying machines " ..I just assembled the GN1 I bought, but couldn't get the Annual scheduled on timefor me to make it this year. Just watched the Lindbergh (Jimmy Stewart) movieand now am studying the feasibility of trying to non-stopper next year KLNC-C37(800sm). I think a 35 gallon tank in the front hole with a hand-crank pumpmight work. The issue would be oil burn on a 12hr flt. Hmm... interesting.LarryRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: Someone just arrived/parked at Brodhead!!!

As one who just spent seven hours in the cockpit of a Pietenpol yesterday, Iwould say the issue is not fuel, but how much abuse the pilot is willing totake. I've done it in one day from North Carolina before (700 sm), leavingat dawn and landing Brodhead just after sunset. I won't do it again.Jack PhillipsHoping to make Brodhead before noon today-----Original Message-----

It looks as the bungees may have been loose and went a bit over center=2C then were unable to come back. They are replacing the prop with the St Croix that Jack has at his hangar and tightening the bungees. With any luck may get across the mountains of WV today. -john-http://www.cafepress.com/half_fastJohn HofmannVice-President=2C Information TechnologyThe Rees Group=2C Inc.2424 American LaneMadison=2C WI 53704Phone: 608.443.2468 ext 150Fax: 608.443.2474Email: jhofmann(at)reesgroupinc.comOn Jul 19=2C 2011=2C at 1:00 PM=2C K5YAC wrote:It has begun.--------Mark ChouinardWings=2C Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on FuselageRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... 063#347063 &n======================== ======================= ________________________________________________________________________________
