I hope you guys will forgive me if this has shown up on the list, but Idon't think it ever made it. I think it wound up in the spam heap.Attached is a photo of A rib jig I made while buiding an Airbike wing.It is mounted on a piece of particle board shelving and uses toggleclamps instead of nails or staples. The advantage is that you can gluegussets on both sides at one time. A little waxpaper helps keep the ribfrom sticking to the jig.......Carl Vought________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 26 Apr 2006 17:20:43 -0500

Rib jigs are easy... built mine in one day. Get some MDF press board, mark offsome of the critical measurements (spar spacing, top and bottom caps, etc.) andstart placing blocks. I also cut all my blocks from MDF, which kept the partslist simple. It's not a real fancy one with spring loaded clamps and such, but I did make use of 1" round dowel for locking cams, which allow for easierpart placement and removal. I used the glue and nail method on my ribs, soI was able to keep it a little simpler than some of the clamp jigs. Just preference...it worked good though... all the ribs came out identical. Seriously, for the same money you spend on freight you could purchase the materials, and then you would always have it in case you needed to make repairs. Lookat the wing section of my log (link below) for more details on my jig. Itis just one of many, but it is pretty simple.--------Mark - working on wingsRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sat, 26 Sep 2009 21:20:25 -0600Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: Rib Jig

Mike you can do one in a couple hours. Scroll down here http://textors.com/PietProject.html to see mine. Instead of plywood I would use composite for less warp. I bolted mine to my bench. Also drilled about a 1/2 to 3/4 hole under each joint to keep the glued joint from sticking to the jig. I used 1/2" square wood from the lumber yard for guides. In my opinion less is better. Using too many makes it harder to remove from the jig. I made pretty tight joints, glued with epoxy, removed and then glued the gussets. Good luck, enjoy.Sent from my iPadJack Textor> On Mar 6, 2015, at 9:13 PM, Mike Salerno wrote:> > > Didn't really have a preference on airfoil. Building a rib jig will take you all of 2 hours. Better to keep it in caseyou ever need to make a repair and you want the new rib to be exactly likethe old broken ones. For that reason I doubt you'll find anyone wanting togive you one. I loaned mine to Gardner Mason after his Piet was crushed atSun'n'Fun under the condition that he return when he finished (which hedid).Jack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia
