Hi All,I am building up wire wheels. I am purchasing 40-spoke hubs from Ken Perkins. Iam now exploring two things: Rims and brakes. I've read the archives, but amopen to any further information listers may have.As to rims, most everyone seems to use WM2 or WM3 (1.85" or 2.15" width, respectively). My understanding is that the "WM" specification is an older rim profile.Such rims are over twice as expensive as more modern ones. Is there a reasonnot to use a conventional, flat style front rim, something like:http://www.motoparthub.com/52_0203_VTwi ... odkHwDYwor even cheaper:http://www.motorcyclepartsmegastore.com ... QKPQThanks for any input,JeffRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Big wheel rims

Considering Ive got box stock 40 spoke, 21 inch, 2.15 Harley wheels, don't knowwhy they won't work. Also worth considering is just using the whole assembly. I know conventional wisdomdictates the 4 1/2 width isn't as good as the specified 6 inch width. HoweverI can personally attest to the fact they are fine, and for about 125 used, they come with rotors attached that work great.I have very basic Matco kart brakes that are simple and effective. As we usedto say, work good, last long time.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Big wheel rimsHi All also=8BI am on the verge of building my wheels and I decided on 3.50"x18" tires. However, I think motorcycle tires are not sized lile car tires, ie. forcars, width is given in millimeters and rim diameter in inches. I presumefor motorcycle tires they are both given in inches. The question: what sizerim for 3.5"x18" tire? I am pretty sure 3.5" is not the rim width.Regards and happy landingsSemih2015-10-26 16:23 GMT+02:00 Jeff Boatright :> jeffboatright(at)emory.edu>>> Hi All,>> I am building up wire wheels.
