Hi,
I have a set of the large Carlson aluminum strut tubes new in the packaging. They came with a Legal Eagle project I bought.
However, I need the smaller Carlson strut tubes. http://www.carlsonaircraft.com/struts.html Can they be used on a Pietenpol?
If so and someone wants them, I will sell them very reasonably. I would hate to scrap them for Aluminum weight.
Thank you.
Might be interested. How much do ya need for them? Shipping from where?
More to the point....are you building a legal eagle? I've been watching that one too, for quite some time.
Half a VW engine in it?
I've run an analysis on the 'small' Carlson struts and they are several times stronger than what is required for a +3.8G loading on an Air Camper, so the large struts would be even more adequate than that. I am planning a writeup on analyzing the loads in the Air Camper lift struts in an upcoming issue of the BPA Newsletter if anyone is interested, but I guess my point is that your struts are worth a lot more than the same weight in empty Miller Lite cans.
Also, the Air Camper plans show the lift struts as about 90" between the bolt holes and your struts are 16" longer than that so the length should work too.

I am asking $150 and shipping. I am building a Legal Eagle / XL hybrid called a spread eagle.
I am running a 1/2 Mosler VW. Sweet engine~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ492DkKadQ
Thank you.
Maxray: are you kidding? I just looked at the Carlson site and (4) of those 106" long struts would be $280. Scrap? No! I'll take them; get with me offline at taildrags@hotmail.com to arrange for shipping and payment.
Maxray: Where could I find more information about the "Spread Eagle". I found Matt Anderson's website, but it hasn't been updated since 2005. Any info would be good.
If your struts are still available I'd be interested. Are you sure they are only 109 inches long and not 120 inches?
