Hot air and tail pipes

I’m in the process of fabricating my exhaust and am curious to hear from folks with real world experience. How short could I cut down the tailpipe without blowing too much hot air onto the fabric?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And any advice specifically pertaining to exhaust set ups would be even more greatly appreciated.
