Bungee replacement tool

Post by Spark6 »

Howdy, all,

The bungees on 5TM are on the soft side of needing to be replaced, and I'm in the midst of deicing whether to replace them or build a set of canned springs a la WW. While I'd prefer to move away from bungees, there is always the argument that these suckers have been working well enough since the bird was built in '86, and perhaps it would be wise not to fix what isn't broken. To whit, I've been looking around for bungee tool replacement options. Among others, I found this video on YT of a Cub bungee replacement (I have Cub-style gear) and the tool they used is both homebuilt, and seems quite approachable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1xaqgDK1vY

The only sticking point is figuring out where to place the hook that holds the free end of bungee while the stretching is taking place. Has anyone built a similar tool? Or have any tips?
