Bolts for A frame TW?

Post by PoconoJohn »

I'n building the A frame for the tailwheel assembly. Instructions say use 3/16" bolts through longeron. That's fine going horizontal, but the two vertical bolts are going into an upright and through a diagonal. Not sure how that works.

I'm going to trim away the edging (there for fabric) so the bracket lays flat on the bottom of the longeron (not adding shim). The side will go flat against the gussett. The bracket fitting bottom will be under the fabric.

While I'm here, I'm about to make gear fittings (again). Any advice or suggestions? Will the 5/16" and 3/16" holes work out for the items that attach to them?

Thank you,

John C

When Ken Perkins built N34KP he used wood screws in the brackets in the holes going through the bottom of the longeron. Posting some pictures of the area taken during a recent repair.
