Aluminum tube/gusset fuselage?

Post by braol »

Has anyone built the fuselage with aluminum tube and gusset...like the Graham Lee Nieuport or the various Airdrome Aircraft models?

A great candidate for something like this would be any of the one-off, more obscure designs found in the numerous Flying & Glider Manuals published and re-published over the years. Its something you really have to decide to do on your own though and then just start in on it. You won't see much support from outside and ultimately you just have to prove it to yourself and a DAR in the end. Or with some of those more lightweight birds it could probably slide in under Part 103. The Pietenpol designs have such a well-proven construction style that you'll be hard pressed to find any support or advice for doing it differently.
