Lug at axle

Post by PoconoJohn »

My 'V's" are not as the plans. I'm wondering if I can cut a slot in the axle and weld a lug into it. Any words of wisdom on this section?

Thank you,

John C

I would think so. That's basically how 34KP was done.

Thanks Richard. I've been stuck at this part for three years and a few months. Trying to get something done.

Perfect example of a picture being worth 1,000 words.

Photos do help. I'm wondering why the lug at the wheel is 5/16", but on the other end at the fitting it's 1/4".

I'll try to get to the hanger this next week and do an actual measurement of the wheel luggage go see what Ken used.

Thank you Rich. I was just curious and didn't know if maybe it's a typographical error. I ordered a sheet of .032 which I'll use at the wheel; piece of cake there. I'm not sure about the other end where I have to fit the lug against the bolt heads. I'll see how it looks.

John. Sorry for the delay. I went to my hanger today and measured the lug on the axle end of the landing gear, where the shock strut attaches. It's 1/4", instead of the 5/16" shown on the plans. 23 years plus service, no problems.

Do you have any other pictures of your gear? Where it attaches to the fuselage, shock struts?

I can get a better photo if you need, but this gives an idea.
