The reason is that the higher rpm used a smaller diameterprop It's thrust optained from a smaller colume of air moving back ata much higher velocity, this air was now moving faster and closer tothe fuselage and in a plane such as the PIETENPOL with lot's andand lot's of parasitic drag and you guessed it there was less thrustbecause of all the increase in drag. Now take the older Ford enginelow on super tech but high on cubic inches and probaly a long strokein the crank lot's of torque and power at lower RPM and a long propproviding a wider colume of air moving back along the plane at a lowervelocity. The VW would work if it had a reduction drive and calulated thebest cruise rpm for the engine rpm.
