I don't know if you have an old starter like the ancient Delco I had on my oldLycoming in the Tri-pacer but the large aircraft battery barely turned it over.now I have a gear reduction type Japanese starter rigged on the Corvair engineand a little 20 Amp gel cell sealed battery ( which is several years old) turnsit over fine.I know that doesn't answer you question except for the factthat there are geared starters out there to replace the old heavy aircraft startersthat definitely take a lot less juice.RaymondRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sat, 31 Jul 2010 07:53:01 -0500Subject: Pietenpol-List: Trying to come up with a color scheme

John,This is REALLY low tech, but you can save this jpg, then right click andchoose open with "Paint." You should have that program with most Microsoftoperating systems. That'll keep you busy for the rest of the day..Gary BootheCool, CAPietenpolWW Corvair ConversionTail done, Fuselage on gear20 ribs done

Very nice, Mike. For whatever reason, it seems to be difficult to make anice looking cowl on a Corvair, but you've managed to do it.Jack PhillipsNX899JPRaleigh, NC _____

Here's the one I use. Should work fine in Paint or pretty much any program.Simple but it seems to give a good idea of things. when I'm bored or get anidea I'll spend a few minutes to make up a new color scheme, must have ahundred ideas by now. I think the original came from DJ Vegh way back when.-MikeMike WhaleyMerlinFAC(at)cfl.rr.com----- Original Message -----

We are running a John Deere lawn tractor dynamo off the rear pulley with a larger driven pulley to slow the rotation some. We are also running a rpm pick up off the ring gear at the top off the starter bracket. I am not sure just what photos you would like but we would be happy to send you something if it would help. It is a bit tight but it all fits. We are just short of starting the engine so everything is in place in there. We hope to finish the cowling soon. We will not be able to work on the plane for a couple of weeks but then want to finish the cowling. Where are you on your build=2C I assume you are using a Corvair as well?
