While I was flying in January, Fat Bottomed Girl ate an exhaust valve. With theplane down hard I took the opportunity to add the 5th bearing. I've alreadymentioned all this. This is what I've learned in the process of making the repairs/changes:- The state-of-the-art valve job has given me another 100 rpm. Nothing else changedexcept for adding the 5th bearing,- Installing the 5th bearing was fussy. The Wesemans were great. Nice peopleand great support. So far it seems to work fine. I'm hoping I didn't screw upthe install! Will know soon enough,- I have the stock oil pan and it has always had a small leak at the back. NowI have a small leak at the front where the new front cover attaches. Not muchoil but messy. I'm trying to solve that.- I have better instrumentation now then I've ever had. One of the concerns withthe 5th bearing is oil pressure. Some people install high volume pumps. OnceI muddled through some gauge drama the pressure numbers proved to be in spec, though on the low end.- I actually know my oil temperature now. Not sure I had a good handle with theprevious setup. It gets a little warm on extended climbs on these 100 degreedays, but nothing unusual. Again, in spec.Central Tx has had an extremely windy spring. The weather called for winds gustingto less than 25 today so I played hooky and went and flew. 2.2 hours. Mademe feel better. Been frustrating not flying for the past several months.Subject change & rant: I watch the corvaircraft list. I've posted or been mentionedthere a handful of times. In all cases I've been met with deafening silence.Any responses I get are off list from my Piet friends. Ironically, a dudeasked the same question today that I asked a few weeks ago. Silence for me,answers for him. Given that I've got more corvair flight time than probably98% of the people on that list, that's pretty frustrating. My point? Pietpeople are great and I appreciate my friends here. At least you'll talk to me!Axel--------Kevin "Axel" PurteeNX899KPAustin/Georgetown, TXRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: A guy can get used to this own hangar business
