I'm with oscar, waaaay to neat. Read, I'm basically unable to do that!Seriously, bravo! More importantly, some very practical suggestions adaptableto any shop situation. If I were to add anything it would be my idea on how to organize hardware. I'mnot a fan of typical plastic bin organizers, too inefficient. I, by happenstance, bought a weird cabinet YEARS ago that had about 36 drawers that are about2 ft sq and 3 inches deep. Works way better than I anticipated it would. I had an entire neighborhood buyingthe same diaper wipes, laundry detergent, dis washing detergent and usingfrozen concentrate for all juices. These all, properly cut, fit the cabinet perfectly and (with a dozen ice cube trays)yielded me a thousand or more bins to hold everything from 0-80 to 1" x10" bolts, nuts, washers, rivets, pins, you name it.I only sort stuff until the pile is small enough to look through quickly. I haveone bin for 7/16 bolts, but about 40 for quarter twenties. My shop is a mess but I can find a piece of hardware about immediately. Like jake'sscrewdrivers, if I have a quarter inch bolt, it's in that one drawer. With large flat drawers, easy to browse. I keep one as a return. When I clean,I throw all my stuff in it, when it gets kinda full, I sort and distribute backinto itself. I like the concept enough I'm building one for my shop in wisconsin.I'm halfway done making the required twenty eight drawers!Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/imag ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Andy flies from the rear pit of the Piet

A friend and colleague flew the Piet from the rear cockpit for the first time yesterday. Here's the entire flight. WARNING! No editing at all. Only for thosewho are bored and hardcore Piet. Raw video; no time to edit yet. Entire flightin 5 videos. Some may take time to load; all are in 1080p but you may haveto manually set the HD resolution using the little cog emblem in the lower rightcorner of the frame. The second video starts the actual flying. In this order:https://youtu.be/7G2dlIR5aa4https://you ... NwlvygRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

I don't know how the rest of you feel, but I admire the act of trusting someoneso much that you would turn over controls of your baby to another person. Thisnot to say that I would fall into that same pile for asking Kevin Purtee tofly mine. That was easy as Kevin is 10 times the pilot I will ever be, and certainlywell qualified to fly a Corvair Piet. I can readily think of another 1/2dozen or more who would be equally welcomed. Jeff, I am glad you posted that, though I'll admit that I only watched the take off and landing. I also haveto admit that I would prefer to stay on the ground...but that's me.Similarly, what a great feeling to be offered the controls. Dan Yocum offered mea glimpse of that in 2012 at Brodhead when he dangled the carrot, and I bit.I had a fair amount of tailwheel time, but hadn't flown in nearly 30 years! Thefeeling was amazing......but what about when that nasty little thing happens? The one thing any of uswould dread in our own planes, let alone someone else's? It happened to me whenI was 18, and it happened to my 15,000 hr test pilot/flight instructor whodrug a wingtip on my Piet while doing a downwind takeoff with a passenger. Hewas mortified about damaging my pride & joy, just as I was 43 years ago. A localBaby Ace owner has been insisting that I fly his Ace, but that memory stillhaunts...my flight instructor hasn't flown my Piet, though he has carte blancand a key to my hanger, since that happened to him 2 years ago (aside from myBFR where he rode in front. So, what's my point? I don't think I have one...just some musings, brought on byJeff's generosity to a friend.> > Gary Boothe> NX308MB> > -----Original Message-----

Here is something I just got from the Matronics RV-10 list. It is theNTSB's ruling on probably cause of a fatal RV-10 crash, but the cause andthe lesson could apply equally well to Pietenpols:http://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviat ... WPR14FA218 &rpt=fiEssentially, the plane crashed, killing two people and injuring a third, because the pilot/builder, against the advice of knowledgeable mechanics, used RTV silicone caulking as a sealant on components in his fuel system. The engine failed on climbout after takeoff due to a large bead of siliconecaulking blocking the fuel flow transducer, and starving the engine of fuel. Then the pilot stalled and spun in during the subsequent off-airportlanding.In spite of all the rancorous comments on this list recently, there is awealth of knowledge among the folks on this list. Please use it, and don'tfeel that any question is silly or not worth asking. If this fellow hadasked "is it ok to use silicone caulking or Teflon tape on fuel systemcomponents", and then HEEDED the answer he got, he and his passenger wouldbe alive today.Y'all be safe out thereJack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Andy flies from the rear pit of the Piet
