Pietenpol-List: private pilot

HI got my ticket in a 150 at local flying schools while I was building. WhenI finished, I went for my tailwheel endorsement in a cub to both get myflying skills current and get the tailwheel thing down (kinda) Then wentstraight to the Piet (on grass for the first month) and it went pretty well.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 20 May 2015 12:24:15 +0000 (UTC)

MichaelI admire your drive to stick with it. I've worked in the flight training environment for many years and feel your frustrations. This may help: it is far better to become a pilot under the tutelage of many instructors rather than one. Each brings a different perspective to the craft and you'll end up with a fuller tool bag in the process. It is also better to learn on more than one type of aircraft. As much as studying more than one POH in the early stages if training might seem like a burden it is good to understand how different types of airplanes require different procedures to operate. This will help down the road as you transition to your beautiful Piet. A private license is a long expensive process that is fraught with as many memorable wins as it is with aggravation and frustration. There's a reason why few of our population holds the ticket. At 35 hours you've already proven your tenacity. Carry on and finish it up. It may not be as rewarding as the build but it will certainly remain with you for the rest of your life as a great accomplishment. I haven't had a student come back after his/her flight test completion and say to me, "I wish I hadn't gone through this process." As for tailwheel famil.... Just come over to the north side of Lake Erie and I'll get you up to speed in my Champ! So, my first 15 hours of dual instruction was done in a C-120. That instructor did not work out, so I moved to instructor #2. He was not a tail wheel instructor and after having some good conversations with him, I decided to move over to aircraft #2, a C-150 for the rest of my training. Shortly after making the switch, another student wrecked the -120, so now there is no more tail wheel training at that facility. I was finally able to solo in the -150 last July just prior to Instructor #2 advising me that he will be moving to Florida. (DA-20C) I am now on my 3rd CFI, third type aircraft and second training facility. I am learning this new aircraft along with all the nuances of being in controlled airspace. I hope to solo, again, this summer. I have about 35 hrs. total of log book flight hours as of today. My training type aircraft are moving further and further away from the likeliness of the Pietenpol, but I hope to regain that basic tail wheel skill once I get into my tail wheel endorsement training...again...in probably another type aircraft...at facility #3 with instructor #4...> > It has been a long and sometimes frustrating endeavor so far, but eventually, I'll get there.> > > 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D> ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: private pilot

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: private pilotAs Jack says "Hang in there." Just keep enjoying learning to fly. I had toswitch instructors and it was not good. But I recovered. Moving to atailwheel will be much easier for you since you have some time in a "real"airplane.Just remember to nail the numbers coming down final and most planes landpretty good.BTW I am a fan of the Cessna 150. I Owned a 1959 model and put 600 hours onit. Loved it. Not too fast. did not carry too much, DID NOT COST TOO MUCH.A good compromise training aircraft.Blue Skies,Steve DOn Wed, May 20, 2015 at 8:17 AM, Jack wrote:> Hang in there Michael! Of course, there is another option for saving weight on the empennage hinges; onethat is even lighter than all of the above. One could simply make the hingesshown in the original plans. However, they are "fiddly" little things to make.It was for this reason that I opted to make my hinges the way I did (an idea Iborrowed from Jim Markle, who borrowed the concept from the Bowers Fly Baby, Ithink.)Bill C.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: private pilot
