Hah. Flying the stunt in a couple of Piets would make the Red Bull stunt looklike child's play. The Piets would fly in the open door at one end, land to afull stop inside and turn off smoke, one of the pilots would climb out and openthe doors at the other side, and then they would roll out, smoke on, and beflying when they exited the other side. Try THAT in your Extra 300!--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Mike CuyMike Groah? Who else has smoke? While those guys are amazing to watch, that stunt was also done way back in 1963 in a twin Beech, for =9CIt=99s a Mad, Mad, Mad World.=9D I know the hangar well, as it still stands at the airport I learned to fly. What=99s not seen in this picture is that there was a stand of eucalyptus trees that he had to negotiate on pull out. In fact, the trees were too close to fly over, but there was a gap large enough to fly throughif he banked enough! Since he was so low to the ground, it required a bank and a yaw to keep climbing. A family friend, now passed, had 8mm movies of the eventsure wish I could see those againGary BootheNX308MB

How about flying in together, land, stop, open the other end, and then one planetakes off one way and the other takes off the opposite way!Ray KrauseSent from my iPad> On Jun 18, 2015, at 9:40 PM, taildrags wrote:> > > Hah. In that same movie (It=99s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World), right after flying through the hangar, they flew that Twin Beech through a billboard. I believe it said Coca-Cola on the front. They flew it through from the back. I read that Tallman painted a bullseye on the back of the billboard to give him a target for the nose of the airplane. The billboard was made of balsa wood, but the frame was steel and he only had 18=9D of clearance on either wingtip. When he flew through it, big hunks of balsa wood plugged both carburetor intakes and both engines quit almost immediately, forcing an immediate landing. He had a lot more cajones than I=99ve EVER had!I found a clip on YouTube showing flying through the hangar (it is at about 2:40 into the clip) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsu3hiP1ikQJack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia

Thanks for finding that video, Jack! I read that in an interview, Tallman admitted that he would not like to repeat that billboard stunt.Gary BootheNX308MB

Hello Ian - I am a displaced Canadian, living in Northern Ireland. I have tried(unsuccessfully, so far) to have a UK Piet Club Fly-In in Northern Ireland inMay - it is just too far for most to attempt.Maybe next year you could be persuaded to join us - it is a (short) 13 mile hopacross the Irish Sea from the Mull of Kintyre to Ballycastle! Pretty safe fromabout 6000 feet, if it is not too windy!!I am building a Piet, but a long way from flying it. If you ever need an excusefor a cross country, the Ulster Gliding Club has a wonderful airfield at Bellarena, about 30 miles west of Ballycastle, on the shores of Lough Foyle. I ama member there and hope that one day, my aircraft will be there too.Your aircraft looks great - hope it sees lots of travels with you guys!Take care,Mark B.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: This should be easy in a pair of Piets
