Hi Kenny,Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. It's good to see your Piet in the air, she looks great and the Willys engine looks the part as well. As for me, I'm currently based in Japan and work as a glider repairer/maintainer (just a mechanic!).When I was a kid, I wanted to become a duster pilot but life took me in a different direction, anyway, take care doing what you do!ThanksCheersMark Stanley--------------------------------------------------

Just a little up-date on my aircraft. I was disappointed in the first flight and felt that without some extra powerI would never feel comfortable flying the Jeep powered Pietenpol. A couple of years ago when I was contemplating the size of propeller I wouldneed for this engine, I sent a private message to William Wynne and asked himhis opinion. He Graciously gave me what he figured would be the size and pitchprop I should try. He advised me to use a 63x32 prop. When I gave me thedata he told me not to be shocked at the short length , and that he thought thatit would be close. Well he was right , I built the first prop exactly 63x32and was able to make 2300 static rpms. After my first Taxi accident andground-loop which busted that prop, I decided to build another the same pitchbut 3 inches longer. That propeller dropped my static rpm to 2000 and causedme to have the weak performance. I have since shortened and also thinned somewhat the blades, though I am stillat 64 inch length. My Test flights today confirmed that Mr Wynne had thelength spot on because my flight performance was much better and I got my2300 hundred back in flight.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Jeep powered pietenpol

Kenny; I'm late, but I wanted to add my name to the list of people congratulatingyou on completing and flying your Jeepenpol. I remember sitting right hereat my computer what seems like not that long ago, watching the YouTube videosof you prop-starting the engine on the test stand in your shop. You pulled itthrough so many times I wanted to tell you to stop trying and check it overto see what's not right, but next thing you know, it fired and ran. Sounded great, too. You need to do a video with sound, and get up close to the idlingengine going pocketa-pocketa out those short stacks.Must be some good things in Arkansas. That's where my old instructor, CharlieAvaritt, is from. He's the guy who ferried 41CC from Shreveport to my hometownof Laredo, Texas when I bought it from Corky, and he's the guy who gave me mycheckout in the airplane. He, too, was an aerial applicator back in the daywhen they loaded the hopper bare-handed and didn't worry about handling or storingthe stuff that went into the hopper. When you could still buy somethingthat would take care of fire ants ;o) Charlie flew a Bellanca Scout in a moviewhere the air work was shot in Laredo back when I was working on my Privatewith him, and the airplane was painted to look like a Border Patrol airplane(pale green and white, with the big gold Border Patrol logo on the tail). Heflew some chase scenes in the movie, which I think was "The Border" but I'm notsure, and when he was training for it, he took me up in the Bellanca and showedme a few moves. One was the old "skipping the tires on the river" trick, but the one I really liked was where he flew the plane right down on the deck(the Rio Grande River) straight for a high embankment at a sharp bend in theriver. At the last minute, he pulled it steeply up and over the embankment, dida duster turn at the top, and then dropped it right back down to complete a180 headed back the other way. The steep drop back down to the river put usin slightly negative G with me pulling against the shoulder harness towards theairplane's greenhouse panel in the roof. Exhilarating ;o) Sorry for the detourto tell a story, but the bottom line is that I've never met an Arkansas cropduster that I didn't like ;o) Congratulations again on getting your uniqueAir Camper flying! Keep those flight test reports coming.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 power, 72x36 Culver propRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Pietenpol-List: Re: Piet power question

Subject: Pietenpol-List: Piet power questionI am curious about engine options and power to plane relationship. The A-65 is an option I have read about. I think the A-85 is another, as well as the corvair option. What is a quick glance into actual performance with these engines. The Jabiru 2200, has anyone used this on a piet?I think I saw the r2800 was installed on one but the r2800 was troublesome. What is the real performance history with these engines?I am toying with building a Piet now that I'm flying my zenith 601. Looking for some sound engine information. Anything will help. Please chime in.
