tail wire bracket attachment

Post by JimBob »

The plans show the brackets on the tail where the wires are attached using rivets to mount.
Holes are 3/16 and I figure the length needs to be at least 1 3/8 (or 1.5) in order to make it through the wood and both brackets.
Looking at pictures it appears the more common way is to use bolts.
Am I assuming correctly?

I'm using bolts. The brackets will sit flush the the lip, so you'll need to have a shim for the bracket to sit on (like in photo). I made my brackets larger (3") than plans to allow for the attachment of wires.

Thank you. Yes, had already installed a shim and lengthen the bracket.
My knee jerk first thought was to use bolts but the plans do call for rivets so wanted to make sure I wasn’t going down the wrong path.

Might be a little late but I think the options are 1) Use the rivet and most of the fitting sits under the covering or 2) Shim and bolt on top of the covering. Bolts wont fit under the covering as I'm sure you figured out but I think it's dealers choice on the look you like.
Cheers!
