I have just begun my rudder and I watched a youtube video of a builder who cut rabbets in pieces of the rudder. I would not have known to make these cuts just from looking at the plans. How would I have known to cut these rabbets by only looking at the plans?

There is a detail on drawing No. 2 showing the cross section shapes of all the empennage beams.
