Material certs

Hello everyone, a new builder here, happy to start this journey.
My question is about tracking and recording material certs used in the build.
Coming from the aerospace and defense industry, I’m used to requiring a coc whenever we buy a raw material or a part made to a specific spec. How common is it to do the same thing when building my own airplane? Are you asking the wood supplier, metal supplier, aluminum hinges supplier, etc., to provide a certificate that the material you purchase is indeed the material you get? Are you keeping any record of that? What about the T88 lot number? Is that being recorded?
Thank you.
