Pietenpol-List: Corvair O-Rings

Post by matronics »

I've just spoken to a mechanic friend of mine who has SOME experience, not a lot, with Corvair engines. He related his fear to me of the engines O0rings leaking oil. Has anyone had any experience one way or the other wih the O-rings in the Corvair engine? Can it leak a little through the O-rings and still be safe? Would diligent mainenence help?Richarrd-----------------------------http://www.wrld.com/w3builderPietenpols, Electronic Music,Website Design, Stompilation________________________________________________________________________________

I have rebuilt one Corvair engine and more VW engines than I care toremember. They both have O rings around tubes housing the rocker pushrods. Usually, they do not leak. They are made of a soft neopremematerial. You can apply silicone sealer if you want. But, if the engineis going to leak, it is usually there or the mail oil seal next to theflywheel. And both of these engines have a reputation for constant minorleaking.Kevin-- Kevin SouthwickONE WORD COMMUNICATIONSOnline Help & Software User ManualsWeb Page Designhttp://users.accesscomm.net/ksouth(713) 864-6930, fax (713) 864-3056Richard DeCosta wrote:> > I've just spoken to a mechanic friend of mine who has SOME> experience, not a lot, with Corvair engines.
