About this two part epoxy as varnish. I bought a gallon of w.e.s.t. and 206 hardnerto do my wings. But the stuff weighs about 30 pounds! I then went to thelocal hardware and found best quality exterior spar varnish. And it weighed maybe10 pounds to the gallon! What brand of epoxy are you guys using? Is it as heavy as mine?Does yours go on thick, and heavy?Did it require an entire gallon of epoxy to do the wings?Has anybody used W.E.S.T.as varnish and any of the slower hardners? 207, 209 etcIs epoxy varnish all that necessary?I could sure use some advice on this mater.OCBhttp://www.mailexcite.com________________________________________________________________________________

Hold up a minute! The two part epoxy varnish that I am using is out ofthe Wick's Catalogue. It can be thinned and is actually very light. Itis NOT a West product. I am at work but I believe the part number is UV570. I think that if you were to use the West system as a varnish youwould be adding LOTS of excessive weight.I believe it is a Randolphproduct. If you want I can send you the proper description tonight. Getback to me by e-mail if you want. Also, the working life is 6 to 7 hours which gives lots of time for beerbreaks etc.________________________________________________________________________________

I used thinned spar varnish for the wood structures. I wanted deeppenetration into the wood so my first coat was about 50/50 thinner tovarnish. Second and third coats were a little thicker, probably 25/75.Lastly, only in the areas where the fabric would touch, did I apply epoxyvarnish. I used epoxy there, incase I or someone else ever decided to do arecover, in hopes that the mek would not lift the normal varnish in theprocess.Much cheaper, much lighter...for what it's worth,Stevee-----Original Message-----canSent: Thursday, September 17, 1998 12:56 AMSubject: Pietenpol-List: two part epoxyAbout this two part epoxy as varnish.
