Pietenpol-List: Firewall

Subject: Pietenpol-List: FirewallTom: I suggest you leave the firewall off until you have installed yourrudder petals, cont.column and any other internal fus. items that youcan think of. If you need something rigid up front to hold things squareduring assembly, temporarily staple the firewall on. Then remove itafter your fus. is complete and do the internal stuff. It's tuff workinginside the fuselage when its setting up on your work bench. Leon S.________________________________________________________________________________

Subject: Pietenpol-List: Firewall My Piet's basic fuselage structure is finished and I'm writing to ask about the firewall. What do most Pieters cover their firewall with, i.e. I assume steel or aluminum? Do you put some of that fireproof fabric in between the metaland the plywood firewall bulkhead? I'm building a Model A powered Piet so minealso has the "shelf" area behind the engine...would appreciate any advice. Many thanks!Fred B. ________________________________________________________________________________

Stainless or galvanized steel works well. Aluminum is a no,no! Putting fibra-flaxbetween the steel and the wood is also recommended. You used to be able touse asbestos to prevent the heat transfer from the steel to the wood but thatis not PC anymore.Cy Galley - Chair,AirVenture Emergency Aircraft RepairA Service Project of Chapter 75EAA Safety Programs Editor - TCEAA Sport Pilot ----- Original Message -----

Hi Gary,The firewall does not need to be attached to the cowling at all. It is attached to the plywood at the front of the fuselage.Greg Cardinal ----- Original Message -----

Wow....... I've been working on my Pietenpol for a lot more than 1000 hours. Lookwhat NASA built in that time.....!A spacewalk for the history booksChamitoff and Fincke logged the 1,000th hour spacewalking in support of InternationalSpace Station assembly and maintenance at 4:02 a.m., four hours and 47minutes into the EVA. Spread over 159 shuttle and station spacewalks performedsince construction began in 1998, the total time at the end of today's EVA was1,002 hours and 37 minutes dedicated to the space station.--------Jake Schultz - curator,Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home)Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Fri, 27 May 2011 13:32:00 -0600Subject: Pietenpol-List: Firewall
