Hi all....while trying to find someone to help me lace and true my nice new Buchananspoked rims, I went in to the local motorcycle shop. I asked one of theguys behind the counter if they lace rims to which they replied we certainly do!We will get the boss for you as he likes "these old weird planes" (Their words).Boss comes out and I show him a picture of what im building and he instantly says"Thats a Pietenpol"! Of course I replied it was.We then went on to chat for 30 mins about how he has a Pietenpol Scout built in1933 and is fitted with a 50hp 9 cylinder radial. Apparently the engine was freshenedup in 1959 and then from 1961 till the 1990's when he obtained it, ithung from the ceiling of a local museum come bric brac store. He acquired itwith the plan to do a complete restoration one day. He said time has not allowedhim to start this yet but each week he goes out and uncovers it and turns theprop over by hand to keep the engine turning. He is a motorcycle mechanic soI hope he has lubed the inside of it.Anyway I thought I would share my find and he has invited me over to have a lookso will ask if I may take some pics and post them on here.Scotty--------ScottyTamworth, AustraliaBuilding a Corvair Powered Pietenpol Air Camperwww.scottyspietenpol.comRudder, Vert stab, Elevators and 22 Ribs built...Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Wed, 25 May 2011 05:54:32 -0500 (GMT-05:00)

Pietenpol-List: Re: Dihedral vs. crosswind

Just for reference, one degree of dihedral translates to about 3 inches at thewingtip (Assuming that dihedral angle is the upward angle from horizontal of thewings) . Two degrees would be almost double that, and three degrees almosttriple that amount (just under NINE inches). Based on eyeball guesstimation, thePiet in the photo that Gary posted appears to have about one degree of dihedralAside from the effects on flight characteristics, a Piet with three degrees ofdihedral would tend to look like an old free-flight model. Not so sure that wouldbe a desired look for a full-size aircraftBill C.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/mode ... __________

Very cool! I always thought that engine looked like a little jewel. There's an E-2 Cub at Brodhead with one of those engines on it.Jack PhillipsNX899JP "Icarus Plummet"Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia-----Original Message-----

Yep, bummer. This one is owned by The Liberty Foundation in Florida. Unless therehave been several made airworthy recently, this was one of only a dozen airworthyB-17s in the US... there are now only 13 worldwide.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on FuselageRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Pietenpol Scout discovery in Australia!
