Got a message from fellow builder Scott Knowlton, saying he had tried to post someprogress pics, but the message and pics weren't going through, so I'm givingit a try, on behalf of Scott. Here's Scott's message (very nice work, by theway):Bill C.Subject: Centre SectionI thought I would share a couple of pictures with the group of the progress I'vebeen making on my centre section. The cut out was made from three pieces of1/4 inch spruce which were steamed, formed and laminated in a simple jig. Steelbrackets and hardware have been fabricated, welded and dry fit. At Bill Church'ssuggestion I took them to a local powder coating company who made them looklike parts from a big factory rather than from my vice and ballpeen hammerand torches! I will do the same with the rest of my metal work. Such a greatway of protecting all that time spent on the fussy metal pieces. Great fun.Scott KnowltonBurlington OntarioRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/cent ... ______Date: Fri, 4 Nov 2011 08:16:48 -0600Subject: Re: RE: Pietenpol-List: Mountain Flying was Re: Getting in a few lastflights before it's too cold OT Luscombe

Scott,Thanks for the info; like you said wonder if the Cont. was tampered with over theyears.wow! what a nose! looks like you can really stretch your legs in there... did hehave a gas tank behind the engine then?We have the room for it, but really after flying the Piet for an 1hr I'd like toland... if you know what I mean.Ours have a C-65 and it already seems like plenty of power, I guess if you areclose to the mountains it's always welcomed!I like you crop duster advise, take care,p.--------560 DreamerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Pietenpol Air Camper: One Person Injured In PlaneCrash

Hi Peter,I don't remember if that piet had a nose tank. I have a tank in the nose (10 Gal)and one in the center section(12.5Gal). The one in the nose is from an OpalKadet car and the one in the center section is a Cessna 140 wing tank. I havea C-85 and burn between 5 and 5.9 GPH depending on how I have the plane loaded. The plane will fly longer than my backside will. But it is still niceto have the extra range when needed.--------Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Group,Has anyone had any experience with a Franklin 65hp? There is one forsale on the field for $200, just wondering if it's a $200 boat anchor.BrianSLC-UT________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Franklin 65hp

Hi BrianKeep in mind - in SLC 65 horses are going to be pretty anemic.I used to fly a Cessna 140 out of SLC #1 with a C-75 and in the summer we'd be doing well to clear the power lines up by Skypark. My 2 centsJon Apfelbaum-----Original Message-----

The 65 Franklin is pretty much a boat anchor. It is pretty animec compared to the A-65. Parts have not been made in a lot of years. Franklins are now made in Europe and parts for new engines are difficult to get. -----Original Message-----

I agree with all the above. Buy it if you want to make a piece of furniture outof it. It doesn't make 65 hp.--------Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

I couldn't even stay current at that rate. We used to have to get 4 hrs per month to draw flight pay and that was not enough for me. ----- Original Message -----
