For those Brodhead regulars, I thought I would pass along that Mehlin Smith passedaway last week. You can see information on the chapter's website... http://www.eaa431.org/ In all the years I've been to Brodhead (19, I think), one thing I could alwayscount on was heading over to hang out for a while in Mehlin's hangar. He wasa big part of making the gathering a great experience. He will be missed by many.Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Thu, 3 Nov 2011 08:52:02 -0500 (GMT-05:00)

Don, thank you for the update on Mehlin Smith. My first ride in a Pietenpol was a Model A powered red machine that I am quite sure Mehlin owned at the time but was being flown by another gentleman when I got my ride. It was a noisy, windy, wonderful experience. I think of it often as I struggle to make some progress on my very slow project.Ralph in South Dakota________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2011 00:20:28 -0700

You may want to check this out with Ernie Moreno, who I think isstill on this list. Ernie's airplane has a Franklin 65 on it. Heis at Independence Airpark near Salem, Oregon. There are pix of Ernie's plane on my website, athttp://www.flysquirrel.net/piets/piets2.htmlErnie's airplane has a pretty long nose too, and it seems to methat there was enough empty space between the magnetos and thefirewall that you could put your two checked bags in there ;o)Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"Flying Squirrel N2069Z "Rocket"Medford, OR website at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________________________________________________________
