I was going to suggest both of those, instead I will second them both.I used to paint in the USAF, we used two part epoxy primer. I reckon if it's goodenough for 400 KTS, it's good enough for 80.After watching a friend of mine powder coat a few car parts I was impressed withjust how simple and fast it was. He used an old second hand oven in his workshop set to the highest temp. HF has a powder coating setup for 75 bucks andthe powder for 5. If you're already setup for paint, then I'd look at a two part epoxy primer. Ifyou need to go shopping, then consider powder coating. 80 for the equipment andthe powder of your choice and the cost of an old oven from Craigslist, theprocess was simple too, preheat the part, apply powder, bake on and cool. Another thought is to head down to the local NAPA. They sell a two part epoxyprimer that is very similar to the Randolph and Poly Fiber. Can be sprayed withthinning or just brushed on for pretty good results. Covering materials won'tbother it...Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: New Member, NW Arkansas

Rick, I agree with Don. I purchased a partially completed Piet and ended upusing very little of the project. I sold the ribs, tail and gave thefuselage to a friend. I'm redoing the wheels to make them acceptable.JackDSMNX1929T-----Original Message-----

Jack&Don, Thanks for the reply, you both are saying what I am thinking....At the end ofwhat I know will be a very involved project it wll be nice to look at the Pietenpoland say "I built it" rather than "I built it, well part of it" and thatwill be I suspect worth a lot. Also check out westcoastpiet dot com. Thousands of pictures of hundreds projectsin every imaginable stage of construction. I also think that if you have enoughof an interest in wood/metal working that you have an entire shop, then justbuilding one from the ground up would probably make you happier. The constructionis very simple and fast even for a novice, for a person with some skillsand some time construction would be very very fast.JimRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Father/son build team with engine question

Mike,The same offer goes out to you too. If you are ever in the NE Ohio or WesternPA area, please look me up. I think it's awesome that you are looking at thisas a father and son project. I try to include my kids as much as possible. My daughters do prretty good at putting up with me, but my son really seems toenjoy the Piet and airplanes in general. Lots of great memories. That's whatit's all about!Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Thanks for all the input. I hope to put it to good use. I did check the localNAPA today and found an etching primer and a primer coat (in a rattle-bottle).I also saw the two part epoxy. Powder coating the metal seems like a greatidea, but I don't have a "garage" oven available.I guess I'll end up ordering primer from AS or Wick's to keep everything as "safe"as I can. Besides, I worked pretty hard today and wouldn't want to ruin thesethings:(I have never figured out how to make the pictures smaller, but I have tried.)Thanks again,TomRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/104_ ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: New Member, NW Arkansas
