Subject: Pietenpol-List: hangar soonWell sports fans and aeroplane enthusiasts if all goes right & the TSA has no problems with me, I should be moving NX895JR into a hangar at Lancaster airport LNS to begin trial fitting wings & related assemblies together on my wide glide Pietenpol airplane project. I am hoping to start the move next weekend & begin the next phase of my build. Among the many things I do not have yet, I still have no real name for her or a good logo design I continue to build. I expect in 3 or so weeks to order engine parts and begin the assembly of my mighty Lycoming 0235 C-1B power plant. Still looking for a set of mags if anyone knows of a pair for sale at a reasonable price I could be interested. Currently have a set of Bendix showerof sparks and no box or ignition system and harness to run them with so still looking for that or a set of Slick alternatives. Anyone has or knows ofa set please contact me off line I am in the market for a useable ignition system to spark up my Lycosauros.Living the dream one day at a time!________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Pietenpol Aerial for sale

Hi Ken,Not sure if these will help, but I'll post them in case they might show what you'relooking for. Took these at Brodhead 2010. This is the plane that SteveChase(?) brought out in bare bones for all to see. This is a group project ofEAA Chapter 1279, and there were tons of details to be seen in this great displayof workmanship.--------Billy McCaskillUrbana, ILtail section almost done, starting on ribs soonRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/bell ... ______Date: Mon, 2 May 2011 10:55:49 -0600Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Pietenpol Aerial for sale

Not to beat it to death however to make a plug fire you need a minimum of 65 psicompression so you'll have to get an accurate compression test. Not unless youhave a calibrated thumb. Next verify that number 1 is at TDC on the compressionstroke, both valves closed. Then verify plug wire to number 1 and rotationthen verify firing order at mag, wire and plug once you have all that verifiedthen prime carb. You should get something. General rule if you got fuel, air and spark and compression she should run notunless the spark arrives at the wrong time assuming your timing chain and marksare properly aligned and your mag drive is turning Just some suggestions time to go back to basics and verify the essentialsJohnSent from my iPhoneOn Feb 7, 2012, at 10:32 PM, "BYD" wrote:> > Excuse me folks, a fellow lover of the blue has got a problem..> > Ive been trying to start my Model-A Pietenpol, which is stiff from fresh overhaul.Try as I might, I cant get even a puff or pop out of it. Fuel, compression, timing and spark right? I can guarantee fuel by pouring a small amountin the spark-plug hole before propping (have also utilized starting fluid). Certainlyhas compression (verified with a thumb over the spark-plug hole whilesearching for top dead center). Timing is set at 28-degrees BTC and if you laya spark-plug on the head and give it a flip youll see spark also when turningthe rotor to line it up while holding the mag in my hand I got one hell ofa shock. I fear that it may just be my weakling status keeping me from my rewardbut Ive had others give a shot with no joy. Suspect that enough speed cannot be generated to obtain sufficient spark.> > The magneto Im utilizing is a Vertex mag that slips into the distributor holeand it does not have an impulse coupler. There isnt enough room between thefirewall and engine to mount an aircraft mag so the plans solution is out. Iwonder if a stock automobile (Model-A) ignition system (battery, coil, condenserand such) might give a better slow speed spark at least to get it running longenough to loosen the tight engine so I could go back to the magneto.> > Any ideas, schemes or shots in the dark will be entertained. The only rewardwill be a yet another YouTube video of a Model-A Pietenpol running.> > Bill> > > > > Read this topic online here:> > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... 846#365846> > > > > > > > > > ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Pietenpol Aerial for sale
