Well, just a week ago I passed within about 40 miles of Frazier Lake airport headedsouth, and on Sunday I passed by it again, headed back north. I drove downto San Luis Obispo from my home in Oregon and back, via Interstate 5. (Andyes, Mark Roberts, I completed my master's degree work!)It took me 10 hours to drive to San Luis Obispo from Medford, so I figure it willtake me 7 or 8 hours to fly it in Scout. Probably 4 legs, 3 fuel stops. Leaveout of Medford at sunup (6 or 7 AM), arrive to the critical eye of the landingjudges at 3 in the afternoon. From what I saw, there are some mighty windyspots along the way though. That whole forest of wind turbines around Tracywas a tipoff that it might be slow and bumpy going on that leg, and the cloudsof garlic skins flying out of the farm trailers on the highway was anotherindication that it gets windy as the day warms up.Set the date... I'll put it on the 2014 calendar, and we'll see how the chips fallfor me and Scout.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: West Coast Piet Fly-In 2014

With the turmoilin life right now, I doubt I woulda been able to drive over to meet you, but hopefullyat next years West Coast Piet gathering. However, I just applied fora job in madison WI (45 minute drive from Brodhead I have discovered) so I maynot be at the event next year... But, with my luch lately, I WILL be which isa good thing too... Thanks for the offers, gents. My hope would be to fly straight on down to thefly-in site all in one shot, but if the midday winds kick up as high as I sawthem around Tracy where the 205 and the 5 triangulate, I would strongly considerstopping in Santa Rosa for the evening.Or maybe that's not the Air Camper way? Do we soldier on, in the face of adversity, and take the pummelling no matter what? Is that what Bernard would havedone (or what "Axel" Purtee does)? Maybe I just need to man up and do it, windor no wind ;o) I have a year to get toughened up, in any case ;o)--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Prop on

Gary; I had no idea you were in need of spar material or I'd have chimed in aswell. If that spar is Doug fir, I would have offered you any of the six straight, clear, tight-grained DF spar planks that are sitting in my hangar, waitingon my next aviation whim. They are rough milled and just waiting to be runthrough the planer. However, it looks like you have yourself a new candidate, ready for duty. I will second, third, and fourth the sentiment expressed byso many others: Pietenpeople are simply the best.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: West Coast Piet Fly-In 2014

Somebody mark this day on the calendar, please: I just received official sanctionto make the journey to Frazier Lake next June. My dear, sweet, understandingwife didn't even hesitate when I showed her the centerfold spread of picturesin the current issue of BPA Newsletter, showing some of the planes that showedup for the West Coast event this year. I pointed out Scout's similarity toMike Madrid's airplane and she agreed that "it's cute, just like yours!"A quick and rough check on SkyVector's flight planner shows a do-able route ofabout 340 nautical, which should be around 8 hours of time including fuel stops, with no wind. A pipe dream, I'm sure, but even with winds I should be ableto make it entirely in daylight hours, VFR, but I will need the handheld dueto a couple of controlled fields along the way. Let the planning begin.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: West Coast Piet Fly-In 2014

Oscar,Your trip down should be a quick one since it is all down hill from Mt Shasta.Getting home could be an uphill battle. I have flown through there. It is fantasticcountry to see from a Piet.
